The martyrs of Fort Parker who were killed by the Comanche
Indians on May 19, 1836 are buried in a common grave in this cemetery. The names
of these martyrs are:
Elder John Parker
Benjamin F. Parker
Silas M. Parker
Samuel M. Frost
Robert Frost
Through the years, this cemetery has gone by different names. The cemetery
originally went by the name of the Union Burial Ground. In 1877 the cemetery
became known as the Lewisville Cemetery after a village in the area called
Lewisville. In 1926 the name was changed to the Glenwood Cemetery. In 1947 the
name was changed to the Glenwood Memorial Park. In recent years the cemetery has
been called the Fort Parker Memorial Park.
There are numerous graves in the cemetery without markers and a large
number that are completely unreadable.
