This family cemetery is located on what was the Shroud Plantation "Pleasant
Retreat". Ethan Stroud was the Patriarch of the Stroud Family in Texas.
He was the first permanent settler in Limestone County and led a very colorful
life serving with Andrew Jackson and Sam Houston in the Creek Indian War in
Alabama. He was also among the first (informal) Texas Rangers and Indian
Fighters. The fact that he could speak four Indian dialects made him a valuable
member.
