The old Wolverton Cemetery is located on the west bank of Plummer's Creek on Tilman Wolverton's old Homestead of 320 acres, 2 miles west of Mexia in Limestone Co., Texas. This. land that Tilman Wolverton purchased from George L. Hammen and wife. Adelaide Matilda Mexia Hammeken, of Mexice City, Mexico, in June 1855. It is situated on the Nothwest corner of te the Killion Survey-- a part of the Eleven League Grant made by the State of Coahuela and Texas to Pedro Varila, derived through him to Mrs. Hammeken. This land is now known as the Evan Thorne Estate.

The above information and the following list of family members who were buried in the Wolverton Cemetery was copied from the Wolverton Family Notes of Mr. William Clarence Wolverton, grandson of Tilman Wolverton. They were graciously submitted by William Clarence Wolverton's daughter, Mrs. Martha Wolverton England of Groesbeck. William Clarence Wolverton was born on his grandfather's farm, August 7, 1867, and died June 2, 1952, in Groesbeck, Texas.

     Ark.
    Mack * 1845/ son of Agnes & Tilman Wolverton in Texas and died in New Orleans, La.
    William died at age 20 son of Agnes & Tilman and died on Wolverton Farm
    Sarah F. 12-31-1855/4-21-1857 dau of Agnes & Tilman
    Elizabeth 4-21-1845/4-21-1855 dau of Agnes & Tilman
    Tilman 1-21-1807/2-26-1874 born in Virginia died at his homestead near Mexia, Texas

Only five markers were found at the time of this survey. One
reads : 8-25-1850/4-7-1668- son of T. &--Agnes

"E. W." this stone is broken.

Note: John B. and Mattie L. Evans Wolverton were the parents of William Clarence Wolverton. John B. Wolverton was the son of Tilman and Agnes McVickers Wolverton. Tilman Wolverton married two McVickers (McVicars) sisters. His first wife's given name is unknown; after her death he married her sister Agnes. They were from the part of Virginia that later became West Virginia.
