| NOTES: Benjamin Best came to Limestone Co. as a young man. He and his brother, Jesse Blayne Best, traveled from Darlington Co., SC shortly after the Civil War. Their mother and step-father, Mary M. McNeese Best Thomas and John W. Thomas, followed them to Texas. Both Mary and John Thomas are buried in the Tehuacana Cemetery. Mary was born in SC in 1837 and died in 1914. Father: James P. Best
b. 1834 in SC and died (probably) abt. 1855 in Darlington, SC Julia Ann McLaughlin's maternal grandfather, Lyman Franklin Rounds, fought in
the Battle of San Jacinto. One of her maternal great uncles, Wilson Taylor
Lightfoot, also fought in the Battle of San Jacinto and received land in
Austin's second colony which was in (what is now) Bastrop Co. Father: David Neal McLaughlin b. March 6, 1828 in Shelby Co., AL and d. May 15, 1917 in Blackwell, Nolan Co., TX.
