Obituary Notice dated Feb 17, 1998:
Services for Mrs. Adelle Pruitt, 80, of Mart, will be held this afternoon at 2 in Mart Church of Christ. Burial will be in Wortham Cemetary, under direction of Littlepage Funeral Home-Mart. Mrs. Pruitt, who died Tuesday in Parkview Regional Hospital, was born near Teague on Feb. 18, 1917 to Clyle Thomas and Ruby Hicks Meredith. She was married to Marion Richard (Dick) Pruitt on May 2, 1934 in Wortham. Her husband died in 1944 in an oilfield accident. Adelle never remarried. She was a registered nurse's aide and worked for many years at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Mart. Mrs. Pruitt attended the Church of Christ at Mart and attended the Ladies Bible Class. She was a graduate of Alamo Beauty College in San Antonio. In addition to her husband, preceding her in death were her parents, her step-mother, Dolly, a sister and five brothers. Surviving are her only child, Patsy Delle Dirks and husband, Dwayne, of Pine River, Minnesota; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister--in-law, Aubrey Clyde and Adela Meredith of Sinton; three other sisters-in-law from this area- Dorothy Meredith Hilscher of Mexia, Dorothy Nell Meredith of Groesbeck and Ann Meredith of Tehuacana; and two nephews from this area- Clifford Wayne Meredith of Groesbeck and Norman Meredith of Tehuacana.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Pruitt, 83, of Wortham will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Walker Funeral Chapel in Wortham. The Rev. Bill Roe will officiate and burial will be in Wortham Cemetary. Mrs. Pruitt died Monday in the Wortham Hospital, following a long illness. She was a longtime resident of Wortham, a member of the First Baptist Church of Wortham, and a member of the Eastern Star. She was born in Hill County on Sept. 1, 1889. Survivors are sons, Peyton Pruitt of Vernal, Utah, Ronald Pruitt of Longview, Washington and Donald Pruitt of Ellkhart; two brothers Sam Conn of Mexia and Jack Conn of Wortham; a sister, Mrs. Sally Lawson of Wortham, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Walker Funeral Home in Wortham in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Donald Pruitt, 67, of Bastrop will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug 5, 1993 at the Harmony Baptist Church on Collinston Road under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Eppinette, the Rev. Dale Jordan and the Rev. Derrell Holland will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 6 at Wortham City Cemetary in Wortham, Texas with the Rev. Alan Eppinette officiating. Mr. Pruitt died Thursday, Aug 5th, in Morehouse General Hospital. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and was a member of the VFW in Fairfield, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Pruitt of Bastrop, one daughter, Frances Schmidt of Houston, Texas, two grand daughters, April and Megan Schmidt, and one aunt, Sally Dawson of Houston. Visitation will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church.

Funeral Services for Ronald Pruitt were held in Longview, Washington, at Longview Memorial Park Funeral Home on April 30. Mr. Pruitt died on April 27 following a lengthy illness. Officiating was the Rev. Harold Morgan. Burial was in Longview Memorial Park. Graveside rites were conducted by VFW Post 3017 of Longview. Honorary pallbearers were members of Castle Rock M&I Helens Post 2982. Mr. Pruitt was born on Sept. 28, 1925 at Wortham. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.L. and Ethel Pruitt of Wortham. Ronald was a cousin of Mrs. Altha (Pug) Horton of Fairfield. Others surviving are his wife, Iris, of Longview; two daughters, Laura and Linda; a son, Billy Winston; a brother, Donald Pruitt of Bastrop, La, and five grandchildren.

Peyton Pruett of Vernal, Utah died Sunday. Funeral services were held Tuesday
in Vernal and Mr. Pruett was the son of the late Mrs. Ethel Pruett of Wortham. Survivors include two brothers, Donald and Ronald Pruett.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 26th in loving memory of John T. Pruitt who went to be with The Lord after sharing 96 years and five months with many loving family members and friends. Officiating the services was Bro. Donald Pruitt of Calvary Baptist Church, Fairfield. Special music was presented by Frank O'Banion organist and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Lee singing "How Great Thou Art". Burial was at Wortham Cemetary in Wortham. John was born April 24, 1889 in Limestone County and he passed away on Sept. 24 at Fairview Manor in Fairfield. He was a retired connection foreman and engineer for Gulf Refining Co, A very loved father and grandfather. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Sallee and Mrs. Charlie Fred Horton of Fairfield and two sons, J.W. Pruitt of Houston and E.B. Pruitt Pruitt of Midland. Six grandchildren including Mrs. Cherry Head of Fairfield and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rankin Gilpin, Newburn Richardson, Warren Awalt, Stanley Graham, Billie Bonner, Hugh Reed Jr. Capps Memorial Chapel was in charge of services.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hester Green Pruitt, 77, will be held Friday morning at 11 in Capps Chapel. Mrs. Pruitt, a native of Navarro County, died Wednesday afternoon at 4:45 in the Freestone County Hospital at Fairfield. She was a longtime resident of Fairfield. She was a Baptist.  Officaiting will be the Rev. Don Willis, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Burial will be in Wortham City Cemetary under the direction of Capps Funeral Home. Surviving are her husband, John T. Pruitt, of Fairfield; two sons, J.W. Pruitt of Houston and E.B. Pruitt of Midland; two daughters, Mrs. C.F. Horton and Mrs. R.B. Sallee, both of Fairfield; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Price, of Corsicana, and Mrs. Euna Spakes, of Wortham; two brothers, J.D. Williams and R.K. Williams, both of Fredrick, Okla.; six grandchildren and one great grand children.

Funeral services were held Thursday for Altho Geneva Horton, 84, of Fairfield who died December 26, at East Texas Center in Fairfield. Mrs. Horton was born January 29, 1917 in Wortham and was a retired secretary/bookkeeper. She was a Past Matron member of order of the Eastern Star Chapter 331, and a member of Round Prarie Baptist Church. Services were held at Capps Memorial Chapel with Ed Ridge officiating. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetary. Mrs. Horton is survived by her sister-in-law, Dessie Pruitt of Midland, nephew and caregiver, John David Sallee of Tyler, and several nieces and nephews. She was proceded in death by her husband, Charlie Fred Horton, and her parents, John T. and Hester Williams Pruitt. Arrangements were made by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.

Funeral services for Charley Fred Horton will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Capps MemoriaL Chapel. Mr. Horton reportedly died in the early morning hours Tuesday while awaiting surgery in Waco's Hillcrest Hospital. Mr. Horton was retired from Texas Highway Department and was involved in farming and ranching at the time of death. He is the husband of Recorder correspondondent Pug Horton.

Houston- Mr. Johnnie W. Pruitt, 80, of Houston passed away March 25. He was born May 17, 1918, in Wortham, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 during World War II. He was a member of Lakewood Church and was a member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge #48 A.F. & A.M. He was employed as a consultant with Big 6 Drilling Company for about 22 years. He was proceded in death by his wife Edna Pruitt, in 1996. He is survived by two sons, Larry Pruitt and Gary Pruitt, both of Houston; one brother, E.B. Pruitt of Midland; one sister, Althea Horton of Fairfield, Texas; as well as three grandchildren, John, Steven and Jacob Pruitt; and one great-grandchild, Janick Pruitt. Services will be conducted Wednesday, March 31 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Dr. Luke Ates officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens in Baytown under the direction of Carter Funeral Home in Houston.

E.B. Pruitt, 77, of Midland, Texas died Sunday May 16, 1999, at Memorial Hospital. He was born May 2, 1922, in Freestone County, Texas, where he was raised and educated. He met and later married Dessie Marie Bailey on August 9, 1942. He was transferred to Midland in 1960 with Texaco and retired from Texaco in 1978. He was an active member of Crestview Baptist Church and Texaco Retirement Club. Survivors include his wife, Dessie Pruitt of Midland; a sister, Pug Horton of Fairfield, Texas; a son, Donnie Pruitt and his wife Linda of Midland; two daughters, Becky Childers of Colorado and Cherry Head and her husband, Ira, of Mississippi; five grandchildren, Carrie Childers and Kim Smarr, both of Colorado, Marcy Neatherlin and Shauna Pruitt, both of Midland, Benjamin Head of Mississippi; and three great grandchildren, Justin Childers and Madyson Smarr, both of Colorado, and Baily Neatherlin of Midland. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Ashlock, of Crestview Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. in Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Paul Neatherlin, Ira Head, Bob Cox, Ken Marks, Danny Skaggs and Gary Pruitt. Honorary pallbearers are members of his Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund, 3300 Thomas, Midland, Texas 79703.

Graveside services were held at the Wortham City Cemetary Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. J. C.. (Martha) Cunningham, 72, of Wortham, who died in Rusk Monday morning. The services were conducted by the Rev. Bill Raynolds, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Wortham. Burial was in the Wortham City Cemetary with the Riddle Funeral Home of Mexia in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Cunningham was born in Limestone County on April 19, 1893. She was a Methodist. Survivors include her husband, J.C. Cunningham, Wortham; a brother, J.T. Pruitt, Fairfield; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Jackson, of Waco, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Ed Spivey of the Quail Valley Baptist Church will officiate at funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Sims, 86, of Mexia, on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock in Porter and Holmes Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Sims died Tuesday afternoon at General Mexia Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 25, 1900, in Limestone County. She was a retired nurse and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Sims are several cousins, including Margie Farris of Mexia. Pallbearers are Larry James, Henry Richard, Argie Black, W.L. Black,Haskell Farris and Cyril Farris. Interment will be at Mexia Cemetary.

Mrs. Luanna "Priscilla" Pruitt, 79, died at 12:45 PM at her home, 212 Dallas St, Waco, Texas last Friday. Funeral services were held at Valley Cemetery near Wortham Saturday at 4:00 PM with Compton's in charge. Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. T.C. Jackson of Waco, Mrs. Belle Walker of Gladewater, and Martha E. Sweet of Wortham, two sons: W.L. and T.J. Pruitt of Wortham, and one brother, J.J. Black of Mexia. Patsy stated that Valley Cemetery is Tehuacana Valley Cemetery.
