Submitted by Jim Shivers, Jan 28, 2008 ABILENE - Mrs. Daisy J. Naylor Shivers, 87, formerly of Mexia, passed away on January 10, 2008, at Sears Methodist Retirement Center in Abilene. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Wortham, Texas with a nephew, George Shivers of Branson, Missouri, conducting. He will be assisted by David Shivers, a grandson and pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. The interment will be in Wortham Cemetery. The family received friends at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory in Abilene, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Daisy was the only child of Jerry and Rhoda Mary Naylor. She was born in Mexia, Texas, on January 14, 1920. She was married to her husband of sixty-nine years, Lawrence Shivers, Jr., on August 7, 1938, by his father, Lawrence Shivers, Sr. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Home Builders Sunday School Class. She was also a Bronze Life Master and member of ACBL (American Contract Bridge League). Survivors include three sons and their wives, Don and Arlene Shivers of Abilene, James and Francys Shivers of Ferris, Texas and Michael and Suzanne Shivers of Boerne, Texas; six grandsons,and wives; and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Anna Katherine Shivers at the age of 24 months.
