Lubbock History

Lubbock County was created in 1876, and organized in 1891, from what were known as the territories of Bexar and Young. It was named after Thomas (or Thompson) Saltus Lubbock, a former Texas Ranger and brother of Francis Lubbock (previous governor of Texas.) Texas Tech was founded in Lubbock in 1923. Reese Air Force Base was founded in 1941 (and continued until 1995).
