C. W. Scuddy Murder - Aug. 25, 1929

Jury Gives J. S. Tinney Sentence of two years.
Found guilty of killing C. W. Scuddy, J. S. Tinney, 70 year old Mitchell County farmer, Wednesday was given a two year penitentiary term by a Thirty-Second District Court Jury here. The verdict was returned at 10 o'clock after the jury had been out for two hours.

Tinney's wife, who was in the courtroom throughout the trial, collapsed when the verdict was read and had to be taken to a local sanitarium for treatment. Tinney exhibited no emotion. His 19 year old son, Isaac, was the State's star witness in the case. Tinney was a tenant on Scuddy's farm at the time of the killing last August.

George H. Mahon, District Attorney, was assistant in the prosecution by W. H. Garrett, County Attorney.
The Colorado law firm of Sandusky & Ratliff represented the defense.

Mr. Charles W. Scuddy was buried in the Colorado City Cemetery, Mitchell Co., Texas.

Willie & Charlie had one son, Roland Charles Scuddy who was 1 year and 1 month old in the 1930 Mitchell Co., Texas census. Census taken April 15, 1930.
Charlie had a brother, John Calvin b. Mar. 1861 who was m. to Bennie ? b. Feb. 1864 who lived in Sterling Co., Texas in 1900. They had they following children: John b Sept. 1880, Pearl b. Sept 1882, Nora b. July 1884, Allie b. June 1885,
Enia b. March 1888, Walter b. Aug. 1890, Ray or Roy b. Nov. 1892, Fred B. Sept. 1895, Kazie b. June 1897.
