COLORADO CITY RECORD
Mr. Howard Burton, age 85, passed away on March 25, 2009, after an extended
illness in the VA Hospital in Big Spring. Funeral services were held on
Saturday, March 28, 2009 at New Life Bible Ministries Church in Colorado City at
2:00 p.m. with Pastor J K Wood officiating. Burial followed in the Colorado City
Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Howard came into this life the eldest son of Claude and Viva Winsor Burton on
January 22, 1924 in DeKalb. He married Joyce Covington on December 22, 1946 in
Lamesa, where they raised their family. He came to Colorado City about 1970
while caring for his ailing mother.
He is survived by his children's mother, Joyce Covington Burton Miles of
Colorado City; daughters, Theresa Burton of Roanoke; Claudia Lann and husband
Kent of Midland; six grandchildren, Nat McGee, Kim Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas
Lann, Jessica Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. Rainy Lann, and Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Abrahams;
12 great grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan and Levi Gray, Krista Cooley, Austin
Lann, Ragan and Paige Morrison, Tyler Montgomery and Curtis Lann, Ryan and Rain
Abrahams; sisters, V C Nance of Lamesa and Martha Holman of Lubbock; brother,
Henry Burton and wife Doris of Colorado City.
Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Kay Abraham and
Glenda Ann Burton; grandson, Chris Wade McGee and sister, Luticia Burton.
