COMPTON RITES AT LORAINE
Funeral for John M. Compton, resident of Mitchell County for 57 years, was
held Friday morning at 10:30 in the First Baptist Church at Loraine.
Officiating were the pastor, Rev. James McKee, assisted by Don Robinson,
minister of the Lightfoot Church of Christ.
Mr. Compton, 94, died at 1:50 P.M. Wednesday in Johnson Hospital after
an illness of several weeks.
Born March 6, 1873 in Lincoln County, Tennessee, he was married to Miss.
Fannie Lou Francis November 2, 1896. After her death on June 21, 1904
he was married to the former Miss. Letitia Hock in 1905 at Eastland, Texas.
She died in September of 1964.
The couple moved to Mitchell County in 1910 and he was a farmer in the Loraine
area until his retirement.
Survivors are two daughters; Mrs. Flossie Carlisle of Colorado City and Mrs.
A. C. Dunn of Loraine; one son, R. N. Compton of Corpus Christi; a sister,
Mrs. Eula Tunstill of Fort Worth; 13 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and
two great great grandchildren.
Burial was in the Loraine Cemetery directed by Kiker & Son Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Floyd Griffin, Sidney Compton, Andrew Compton, Wright
Hock, J. T. Hock and Jack Ritchy.
