Mrs. Crosby's Rites At Loraine Today
Loraine, Nov. 23
Funeral for Mrs. J. A. Crosby, 64, was to be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the
Loraine First Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Harris, pastor, officiating.
The Rev. Leonard Hartley was to assist with burial in Loraine Cemetery under the
direction of Cate-Spencer Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Mrs. Crosby, resident of Loraine since 1906, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday in the
Johnson Hospital here. She had been in ill health for several months.
She was born Leila Pearl Miles on September 23, 1889 in Ellis County. She moved
to Loraine with her parents in 1906. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She was married September 23, 1906 to the late C. E. Gaither. Two daughters were
born to this union. They are Mrs. Paul Stewart of Colorado City and Mrs. Allen
Beaty of Loraine. Mr. Gaither died in 1928.
She was married to J. A. Crosby at Loraine March 31, 1932. Mr. Crosby died
August 13, 1953.
Other survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Dale Upman of Oxnard, California,
Mrs. M. D. Tidwell of Carrollton, Mrs. T. L. Blackman of Fort Worth, Mrs. Guy
Hildebrand of Loraine and Miss. Lavaden Miles of Loraine; and four brothers,
Howard Miles of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Cecil Miles of Colorado City, Herman
Miles of Loraine and Ted Miles of Loraine.
