ISAAC NEWTON WILLIAMS

 

Isaac Newton Williams of Dutch-Irish ancestry was born in Madison County, AR June 4, 1833.  He moved to Georgetown, Williamson Co., TX, with his father in 1848.  His mother, who was a doctor died in Arkansas in 1847.  Isaac attended the university and studied to be a doctor.  He met Margaret Menefee there, and they married Feb. 13, 1853.  They settled near Cherokee, San Saba Co., TX, on the large Buckle Ranch of his father.

 

His father was a Texas Ranger Captain Johnny Williams of Irish descent.  He was head of the Company of Texas Rangers in San Saba County in the year of 1858.  John Williams was a Captain with the Texas Rangers until he was slain by the Comanche Indians Oct. 2, 1862.  He and a Negro slave boy were gathering beeves to send to the Confederate Army at Little Rock, AR, when they were attacked and killed by a band of Indians.  Captain Williams was one of San Saba County's most useful pioneer citizens.

 

The Isaac Newton Williams family moved to Meridian, bosque Co., TX in 1867.  Isaac Williams was appointed County Treasurer of Bosque County June 23, 1871.  He was elected County Treasurer December 2, 1873.  He held this office until he resigned to move to Nolan County in 1881.  He owned land in this county north of the Montgomery ranch.  It was in the Lake Sweetwater area.

 

Isaac Williams was a bookkeeper and herb doctor.  He owned a fine stock of Appaloosa Horses.

 

Their children were Eugenia Isabel, who married John Calvin Montgomery; Henry Francis; James Evan; Sallie Elizabeth, who married George Dennis; John Oscar; and Edgar.

 

Isaac Newton Williams died June 28, 1888.  His wife, margaret, died March 20, 1914.  (Fay Sanders)
