Mary Jean Seeburg Delaplaine passed away from this life Sept. 29, 2005, in San Angelo , Texas , at SCCI hospital after a lengthy illness at the age of 81.

A Rosary service will be said at McCoy Chapel on Memories Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at 6 p.m.

A second Rosary will be said at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at 7 p.m. in Cheyenne , Wyoming , with the Funeral Mass at Saint Mary's Cathedral at 1 p.m. on Oct. 7. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery in Cheyenne beside her husband.

Mary was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Rock Springs , Wyoming . She married John Harry Delaplaine on Sept. 8, 1946, in Rock Springs .

She lived in Sweetwater since 1982 and in Charlotte , N.C. , before. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sweetwater and a member of the Catholic Women's Organization. She was a member of AARP. She was a member of Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody , Wyoming , and a member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association . She also was a member of Ladies Auxiliaries of the National and Texas Societies of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mary was a member of National Gypsum Trailblazers Association.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 23, 2003; a son, John Peter Delaplaine, on Nov. 5, 1947; and a sister, Nancy Claire Cummings on May 17, 2001.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Nancy Jean Timberlake and her husband, Pierce, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four sons, Phillip Kirk Delaplaine of Oakland, Calif., Mark Seeburg Delaplaine of Sweetwater; Thomas Eric Delaplaine of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Christopher Delaplaine and his wife, Susan Diane, of Grand Prairie; and her sister, Patricia Ann Seeburg of Powell, Wyoming. She also has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Kirk Delaplaine, Mark Seeburg Delaplaine, Thomas Eric Delaplaine, Christopher Delaplaine, Nancy Jeane Timberlake, Mary Claire Jacobs and John Bliss Cummings.

Mary Maudene Roberts Waggoner, 91, of Lampasas and formerly of Sweetwater, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, in Lampasas.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, in the Sweetwater Cemetery with Bill Johnston officiating.

Services will be under the direction of Cate-Spencer and Trent Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Mrs. Waggoner was born on Feb. 17, 1914, in Navarro County . She was a homemaker and member of Lamar Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Anna Sue Waggoner Brown and her husband, Gary, of Lampasas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bascom L. "Jelly" Waggoner; one son, Bascom L. Waggoner Jr.; two brothers, Clyce Roberts and Horace Roberts; and one sister, Vera Roberts McBurnett.

Mrs. Darrell "Charlene" Hulme, 71, of Sweetwater died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, in the Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Metzger officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, in the funeral home.

Mrs. Hulme was born on Oct. 27, 1933, in Big Spring. She formerly lived in Midland and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Hulme of Sweetwater; one daughter, Sandy Drake and her husband, Bill, of Abilene; one son, Randy Hulme and his wife, Anne, of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, Russ Hulme and his wife, Amy, Kyle Hulme and his fiancee, Allison Boyd; Shea King and her husband, Kyle; Brian Drake and his wife, Katie, and Chad Drake and his wife, Katie; two brothers, Durwood Tonn and Ewell Tonn, both of Denton; and two sisters, Pearl McDaniel of Angleton and Jan Farrington of San Angelo.

June Hale Glover Carter, 91, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, in a local care center.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, in the Balmorhea Cemetery in Balmorhea under the direction of Preddy Funeral Home of Ozona.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, in the Hawley Cemetery with his nephew, Gary Williams, Minister of Huckabay Church of Christ and Larry Tarver, Pastor of Clear Fork Baptist Church of Hawley, officiating.

Melvin was born on Jan. 18, 1939, to Ben and Ruth Copeland in Crosby County. He grew up as one of eight boys. He worked as a farmer and a tractor technician for dealerships; Lubbock O'Donnell, Roscoe, Sweetwater and Abilene Farm Supply.

He and his wife Sue of 45 years have resided at Hawley for the past five years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Roscoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.J. and Ruth Copeland; brothers, Mike, Arthur, Leslie and Pat, and sons; Marlin and Darrin Copeland.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Copeland, daughter, Sandy Davidson, grandchildren; Kyle and Aleigh of Hawley; brothers, Tommy Copeland and family of Colorado City, Jerry Copeland and family of Ranger, Bobby Copeland and family of Tahoka; sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Joy Colleen Bohannon, 64, of Sweetwater died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, in her residence.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, in the McCoy Chapel of Memories with Ervin Lehrman officiating.

Ms. Bohannon was born on Jan. 29, 1941, in Wafina, Kansas. She lived in the area since 1980. Ms. Bohannon worked as a cashier and in the deli of Lawrence IGA and the Village Groceries.

Survivors include three sons, Troy Bohannon of Sweetwater, Stacey Bohannon of Mt. Home, Ark., and Steven Bohannon of Syracuse, N.Y.; three sisters, Nancy Bowden of Arvada, Colo., Lois Grey of Aurora, Colo., and Edna Sawall of Lakewood, Colo.; one brother, Robert Marriott of Wiggins, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Clarissa Bohannon and Jacob Kincade.

Marie Winn, at the age of 88, was promoted to glory at 10:50 a.m. Sept. 20, 2005. She was born in Jones County on Sept. 3, 1917. Her loving parents were Tom M. and Minnie Watts.

Marie was married for over 50 years to her loving and caring husband, Kenneth Russell Winn, on Sept. 13, 1936. They moved to Sweetwater in 1939, where they would raise their only child, Janette Marie.

Marie owned and operated Marie's Beauty Shop on Lamar Street in Sweetwater for over 50 years. She devoted her time with her family and friends at SNAP Marie stayed in Sweetwater even after the passing of her husband in 1987, until 2003, where she then moved to Abilene with her daughter. She continued to be involved in the Red Hat Society and many other activities put on at the nursing home.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, in the Sweetwater Cemetery with the Rev. James Baker officiating.

Services were under the direction of Cate-Spencer and Trent Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Marie is survived by her loving and faithful daughter, Janette Dorsey and her husband, Edward Dorsey; her four grandchildren, Eddie Dorsey and his wife, Glinda, David Dorsey, and Michael Dorsey and his wife, Lisa, all of Abilene, and Julia Ferguson of Kingsland; nine great-grandchildren, Eddie Dorsey, Barbra Alonzo, Tammy Faries, Kenneth Dorsey, Jonathan Dorsey, Misty Dorsey, Hannah Dorsey, Dylan Ferguson and Matthew Ferguson; and five great-great-grandchildren, Brianna Faries, William Faries, Alex Alonzo, Alexix Alonzo and Nicholas Dorsey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth Russell Winn, on April 29, 1987; and several brothers and sisters.

Lawrence A. "L.A." Warren, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, in the Merkel Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Scott officiating.

Burial will be in the Sweetwater City Cemetery under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.

L.A. was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Streetman to John B. and Ellen E. Brown Warren. He married Marjorie Owen on March 26, 1949, in Sweetwater. L.A. was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He moved to Merkel in 1982 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He drove a truck for Norman Bain and Randy Dunagin. He was co-owner of Whiz Whumples Drive-in.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Warren of Merkel; a son, Owen Randall Warren and his wife, Shirley, of Abilene; four daughters, Patricia McGowan and her husband, Pete, and Barbara Baker and friend, Bill Raney, both of Sweetwater; Fay Ruth Morris and her husband, Stanley, and Annell Hill and her husband, Billy Don, both of Merkel; three sisters, Ellen Fields of Lampasas, Lora King of Archer City, Flora Heath and her husband, Tommy, of Joshua; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters and two grandsons.

Robert Lee Anz, 79, of Sweetwater died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in his residence.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in the McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater with the Rev. David Chittenden officiating.

Mr. Anz was born on June 26, 1926, in Anson. He was a longtime member of the Broadway Baptist Church and a graduate of Newman High School in Sweetwater. Mr. Anz moved to Sweetwater in 1936 from Anson. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in Germany. Mr. Anz was the auto parts manager for Modern Pontiac-Olds in Sweetwater for many year. He later worked at Auto Parts with his brother, John Anz, for three to four years.

Survivors include one son, Donnie Anz and his wife, Diane, of Odessa; one daughter, Debbie Allen of Sweetwater; one brother, John Anz and his wife, Marieta, of Sweetwater; two sisters, Nettie Imhoff and her husband, Al, of Barnstabel Village, Mass, and Dorothy Manning and her husband, Fred, of Lewisville; 12 grandchildren, including Tricia Norrell and her husband, Mickey, of Frost, and Christina McCann and her husband, Kenneth, of Dallas; and 25 great-grandchildren.

William Duane "Bill" Herndon, 60, of Big Spring died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, in the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in the Sweetwater Cemetery with the Rev. Howell Martin officiating.

Mr. Herndon was born on June 15, 1945, in Sweetwater. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a captain. He lived in Big Spring for the past four months. Mr. Herndon was an automotive manager in retail for different stores. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Herndon was a graduate of Sweetwater High School and Texas Tech University.

Survivors include one daughter, Chandra Fleenor and her husband, Dennis, of Lubbock; one son, William D. Herndon II of Lubbock; his mother, Clara Mae Herndon of Sweetwater; one brother, Edward Herndon and his wife, Nancy, of Duncanville; and three grandchildren, Logan, Ashley and Nicholas Fleenor, all of Lubbock.

Mamie Seal Hilliard Henderson died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in the Nolan Nursing and Re-habilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home chapel.

Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Dublin, she was a daughter to the late, Warren G. and Dora (Ballard) Jones. Mamie married J.H. "Jim" Hilliard in Eastland on Sept. 2, 1943. She lived in Fisher County since 1947, where she worked as a licensed medication aide for 28 years at both nursing homes in Roby and Rotan. After her husband Jim died, she later married Fred Henderson on April 3, 1982, in Rotan. Mamie enjoyed quilting, canning and farming. She was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James Ross and Beverly Hilliard of Sweetwater, and Roy D. and Janice Hilliard of Stephenville; one brother, Franklin Jones of Waco; one sister, Mary Turpen of Lamesa; five grandchildren, Cody Hilliard of Abilene, Kelly Sheridan of Sweetwater, Lori Curtis of Stephenville, Lisa Williams of Navasota and Leslie Whiteley of Stephenville; and five great-grandchildren, K.C. Seigler, Maci Whiteley, Riley Sheridan, Taylor Williams and Jathan Sheridan.

Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands (Jim Hilliard on July 26, 1979, and Fred Henderson on Jan. 30, 1986); three brothers, Willis, Henry and Dub Jones; and two sisters, Ella Sims and Cornice Jones.

Bert Sanders, 90, of Sweetwater died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, in Sweetwater.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in the McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater with Dale Mullins officiating.

Visitation will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in the funeral home.

Mr. Sanders was born on April 18, 1915, in Farmerville. He married Deloris Burks on Oct. 6, 1934, in Tuscola. Mr. Sanders was a restaurant cook the first 18 years of his marriage, and then retired after working as a painter and carpenter. He lived in Sweetwater since 1935 and was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Paul Sanders of his wife, Mildred, of Garland; one daughter, Dorothy Marie Stone and her husband, Jack, of Sweetwater; one sister, Rosie Frame of Paradise, Calif.; five grandchildren, Lester Gerald Sanders, Tammy Ramsey, Ronnie Clauson, Roger Clauson and Roberta Cool; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 11, 2004; two sisters and three brothers.

Mollye Beth Hopkins, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Sept. 14, 2005, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene after a courageous battle with heart ailments and other related medical problems.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Roscoe. Burial will follow at the Roscoe Cemetery under the di-rection of McCoy Funeral Home. The Rev. Vernon Baker will officiate.

Beth was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Merkel, to J.B. "Bowie" and Bettye Byrom Allison. She married Walter Ray "Bill" Hopkins on July 7, 1952, in Roscoe. She had lived in Roscoe since 1945.

Beth was employed by Acme and Inadale Co-op Gin, where she worked as an office manager. She later worked at Roscoe State Bank, where she retired in 1990.

Beth was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church of Roscoe. She also gave so kindly of herself as an auxiliary member of Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, where she served as a volunteer. She was a graduate of Newman High School.

Survivors include one son, Walter Ray Hopkins of Houston; and two daughters, Jody Drake and Mary Williams, and her husband, Jerry, of Roscoe. She had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, "Bowie" and Bettye Allison; her loving husband, "Bill" Hopkins; brother, John Allison; and one daughter-in-law, Ranell Hopkins.

Timothy Joe Crocker Martinez, 22, of Franklin, Ind., died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2005, in Franklin, Ind.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, in the Greenwood Christian Church.

Interment was held in the Garden of Grace in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005.

He was born on May 12, 1983, in Sweetwater. He was a member of the Greenwood Christian Church.

Survivors include his parents, Tim and Cladia Martinez; one brother, Vidal Martinez of Sweetwater; and two sisters, Brooke and Laura Martinez, both of Sweetwater.

Mr. Aguilar was born on Feb. 11, 1922, in Briggs. He married Marcella Gutierrez on April 28, 1941, in Sweetwater. Mr. Aguilar was a retired truck driver and lived in Sweetwater since 1939. He had worked for Sears for 15 years and Sweetwater Cotton Oil Mill for 12 years. Mr. Aguilar was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella Aguilar of Sweetwater; two daughters, Francis Gloria and her husband, Lupe, and Anita Aguilar, all of Sweetwater; two sons, Joe Aguilar of Farmers-branch and Pete Aguilar of Dallas; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy Aguilar of Denver, Colo., and two sisters, Sabrina Martinez of Lubbock and Cheona Chestnut of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Guadalupe Aguilar; and three brothers.

Helen Alcala, 93, of Sweetwater died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, in the Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of Cate-Spencer and Trent Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Mrs. Alcala was born on March 27, 1912, in El Paso. She was a housekeeper for many years before retiring.

Survivors include one brother, Ralph Alcala Sr. of Sweetwater; one sister, Eliza Gonzales of Sweetwater; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brijido and Andrea Alcala; four brothers, B.A. Alcala, Raymond Alcala, Gilbert Alcala and Jose Alcala; and four sisters, Gregoria Alvarado, Mary Ruth Alcala, Augustina Gutierrez and Elvira Martinez.

Nancy Ola Taylor, 93, of Fort Worth, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, in a Fort Worth hospital after a long, courageous battle with heart ailments and other medical problems.

A memorial funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Lindley officiating.

Mrs. Taylor was born May 4, 1912, in Estacado, the daughter of Ross and Pearl Viser Pipkin. She lived in Fort Worth since 1999, previously in Granbury, Sweet-water, Possum Kingdom Lake and other places. She spent her life devoted to family and making the world a better place. Her spunk, humor and caring for others is well known by everyone she met.

Survivors include her son, Jeff and his wife, Stacie Scott of Fort Worth; son-in-law, Don O'Neal of Mineral Wells; granddaughter, Kelly Broadus and her husband, Josh, of Arlington; grandsons, Scott O'Neal and his wife, Christen, of Fort Worth and Spencer Scott of Houston; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Quinn Broadus and Grant O'Neal; several cousins other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Scott in 1964, her second husband, Lowell Taylor in 1988, and her daughter, Susan O'Neal in 2003.

Peggy Lou Littleton, born on Jan. 31, 1921, beloved mother, grandmother and caregiver, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 10, 2005, at the age of 84 years. She was a great sports enthusiast and she dedicated most of her time to taking care of her loving pets and her loving family.

Mrs. Littleton is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Alvin R. Littleton.

She is survived by her sons, Harry Littleton and his wife, Vivian, and Bobby Tex Risher and Maria; grandchildren, Raymond Gonzalez and Sharon, Bobby Alvin Risher and Nancy, Chris Risher, David Risher and Leslie, Paul Risher and Candy, Elizabeth Trevino and Elddy and Bear Littleton; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, from 6-9 p.m., at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.

Charles William Smith, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, in a Sweetwater hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, in the First United Methodist Church in Roby with the Rev. Mike Berry officiating.

Burial will follow in the Roby Cemetery under the direction of the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

Born Jan. 22, 1912, in Fisher County, Charlie was a son of the late C.L. and Hazel (Blankenship) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Nolan and Fisher counties. Charlie married Thelma Cavitt in 1932 at Claytonville. He was a farmer, rancher and mechanic, and enjoyed fishing.

Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, one sister, Dovie Freeman, and one brother, C.L. Smith Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth R. Smith of Sweetwater and Ted L. Smith of Merkel; two brothers, J.M. Smith of Fort Worth and Royce M. Smith of Lake Brownwood; one sister, Ilene Hale of Roby; three grandchildren, Jerre K. Eaton, Cindy Ranson and Penny Rich; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel Ranson, Christen Ranson and Brandon Law.

Mary Frances Justiss, 76, of Sweetwater died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, in the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, in the Cate-Spencer and Trent Funeral Home chapel in Sweetwater with the Revs. Ward Hayes and Malcolm Brown officiating.

Family visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in the funeral home.

Mary Frances Sommerville was born on April 29, 1929, to William Richard and Lillie Mae Sommerville. She married Willard James Justiss on June 7, 1949, in Sweetwater. She was a lifelong and founding member of Trinity Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Justiss was a member of the Porcelain Art Club and Book Review Club. She loved to work in her garden, was an avid artist that did China painting and watercolors, and also, she was a wonderful cook. She was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Cheney and her friend, Robert Jett, of San Angelo, and Carolyn Campbell and her husband, Clovis, of Sweetwater; her mother, Lillie Mae Sommerville of Sweetwater; one brother, Jack Sommerville of Santa Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Britney Cheney of Abilene, Bridget Cheney of Lubbock, Melissa Campbell of Arlington, Matt Campbell and Shawn Campbell, both of Sweetwater, and John Edins and Shane Edins, both of San Antonio; one great-grandson, Peyton Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard, on Nov. 28, 2000; her son, Robert Carl Justiss, on Sept. 28, 2004; her father, William Richard Sommerville, on Dec. 21, 1974; her brother, William Richard "Bill" Sommerville Jr., in May 1987; and her grandson, Shane Alan Cheney, on Aug. 25, 1982.

Maria "Jessie" Herrera, 100, of Sweetwater died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, in the Roscoe Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

A rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, in the funeral home.

Mrs. Herrera was born on Aug. 25, 1905, in Mexico. She married Mateo Herrera in 1963 in Sweetwater. Mrs. Herrera was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Ladies of the Guadalupana's Society.

Survivors include nephews, Rufus T. Palacious, Gregory T. Munoz and David T. Palacios, all of Sweetwater; nieces, Margerate T. Virgen, Rosa Maria T. DeLuna and Guadalupe P. Prado, all of Sweetwater; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Adrian Edward "Punk" Mullican Jr., 74, of Roscoe died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, in Abilene.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Keith Clifton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Mr. Mullican was born on Aug. 19, 1931, in Honey Grove. He married Glenda Mallonee on March 19, 1954, in Rylie. Mr. Mullican was the owner of Mullican Dirt Construction Co. He lived in the Roscoe area since 1964 and was a former resident of the Dallas area. Mr. Mullican was a Korean War veteran and member of the First Christian Church in Sweetwater. He was a member of the Downtown Men's Bible Class and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Mullican of Roscoe; two sons, Jeff Mullican and his wife, Elizabeth, of Eula, and Daryl Mullican and his wife, Carolyn, of Sweetwater; and three grandchildren, Tyrel Mullican, Shiloah Mullican and Tucker Mullican.

H.L. Thompson, 79, of Snyder died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, in the Cogdell Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home chapel in Snyder with the Brady Traywick officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, in the funeral home.

Mr. Thompson was born on Aug. 23, 1926, in Pumpkin Center, Okla. He married Evelyn Perry on June 17, 1946, in Snyder. Mr. Thompson served on the original U&F Water Board, where he was past president.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carla Thompson of Snyder; one daughter, Brenda Lee Thompson of Sweetwater; two granddaughters, Jacki Thompson and Temi Thompson, both of Snyder; three brothers, Billy Ray Thompson, Gerald Thompson and Charles Thompson, all of Redding, Calif.; four sisters, LaWanda Morton, June Young, Joyce Thompson and Linda Forman, all of Redding, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Burthina Henkell Williamson, 85, of Roscoe died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, in the Roscoe Healthcare Center.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, in the Pyron Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, in the funeral home.

Mrs. Williamson was born on Dec. 1, 1919, in Scurry County. She married Roy Williamson in 1936 in Pyron. Mrs. Williamson was a retired CNA in the home health service. She lived in the Roscoe area since 1992 and was a former resident of Snyder. Mrs. Williamson was a member of the Morning Side Baptist Church in Snyder and was very active with the youth and WMA, and as a Sunday school teacher. Her parents, Doc and Saphronia Henkell, were homesteaders in Pyron and Scurry County.

Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Patty of Roscoe; one son, Jimmy Williamson and his wife, Jo, of Hawley; two sisters, Maggie Gilliam of Singer, Calif., and Mary Alice Cajanek of Rockwall; one son-in-law, Jim Massingill and his wife, Audrey, of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Williamson, on April 3, 1981; one granddaughter, Melba Dee Milholland on April 17, 2002; one sister, Dorothy Peterson, and one brother, David Haskell.

Graveside services for former longtime Sweetwater resident Mrs. Buena M. Wright, 98, will be held in the Sweetwater Garden of Memories at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005. Mrs. Wright was the wife of the late Elmer S. Wright, publisher of the Sweetwater Reporter for 25 years, from 1945 until his retirement in 1970.

Mrs. Wright died in a Temple health care center on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005. She had resided in Temple since 1984, following her husband's death in 1973.

Mrs. Wright was born on Dec. 30, 1906, in Colorado City to Lillie Victoria and David Crow. She graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor Women's College in Belton and taught school in Bell County. She married Elmer S. Wright of Temple on May 26, 1929. The couple moved to Cleburne in 1934, where Mr. Wright was affiliated with the Cleburne Times Review. Mrs. Wright served her country as a Red Cross Gray Lady during World War II.

The couple moved to Sweetwater in 1945 where Wright published the Sweetwater Reporter and the Breckenridge American newspapers. He was a member and past president of the Texas Press Association and the West Texas Press Association. The couple was active in civic, state and federal organizations. Mrs. Wright was an artist and a member of the Sweetwater Art Club, and several local study clubs. Mr. and Mrs. Wright were members of the First Methodist Church in Sweetwater.

Mrs. Wright is survived by a daughter, Ms. Merle Wright of Temple; a granddaughter, Duonna Woolsey and her husband, F. Robert Woolsey, of Arlington; two grandsons, Bradley S. Holbert of Temple and Cameron D. Holbert of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a great-granddaughter, Angela Woolsey of Arlington; a great-grandson, Ryan Woolsey of Arlington; two nieces and one nephew.

Terrell Eugene Jarrett Sr., 65, of Oak Creek Lake died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, in his residence.

A memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, in the Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. John Curry officiating.

Mr. Jarrett was born on June 20, 1940, in Swifton, Ark. He married Judy Shaw on Jan. 9, 1960, in Walnut Ridge, Ark. Mr. Jarrett was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church. He lived at Oak Creek Lake for 14 years and was a former resident of Pecos. Mr. Jarrett was a self-employed electrician.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Jarrett of Blackwell; one daughter, Patricia Kane and her husband, Chuck, of Lubbock; two sons, William Eugene Jarrett of Paragould, Ark., and Terrell Jarrett Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Wink; three brothers, Glen Gunn of Wink, and Lynn Gunn and David Gunn, both of Hughes Spring; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Mary Gunn; and one son, Glenn Wesley Jarrett, on May 14, 1994.

Marvin Clarence Shifflett, 80, of Widefield, Colo., and formerly of Sweetwater died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, in Widefield, Colo.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, in the Sweetwater Cemetery with the Rev. Floyd Shifflett officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, in the funeral home.

Mr. Shifflett was born on March 20, 1925, in Sweetwater. He married Martha Webster on April 6, 1946, in Sweetwater. Mr. Shifflett was a retired truck driver from Gypsum Transport. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Shifflett was a member of the Church of God of Prophesy. He lived in Sweetwater most of his life and spent the past one and one-half years in Colorado.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Carol Fornwalt and her husband, David, of Hawley; three grandchildren, Nikke Hobbs and Gary Fornwalt, both of Abilene, and James Fornwalt of Saginaw, Mich.; seven great-grandchildren, Aaron Fornwalt, Michael Fornwalt, Brianna Hill, Zackery Fornwalt, Ethan Fornwalt, Grace Fornwalt and Dakota Leroy Fornwalt; five brothers, Floyd Shifflett and Billy Shifflett, both of Sweetwater, Robert Shifflett of Widefield, Colo., Dan Shifflett of Troy, and Bennie Shifflett of Gaffney, S.C.; two sisters, Peggy Franklin of Sweetwater and Ethaline Shifflett of South Carolina.

WICHITA FALLS — Elon Modene Porter, 94, formerly of Roscoe, passed away October 2, 2005. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater with Rev. Caleb Teeters officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater. Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Porter was born December 14, 1910 in Baird. On December 25, 1929, she married James Forrest Porter in Taylor County. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1995. In 1965, she and her husband moved to Roscoe. Mrs. Porter was a homemaker, and she and her husband cotton farmed. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roscoe. In 2002, she moved to Wichita Falls.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by a sister, Ruthell Comegys, on May 15, 2005, and a brother, James H. Marshall.

Survivors include: five nieces, Patricia Loftin and husband Tom of Windthorst, Jan Johnson and husband Scott of Collinsville, Sue Peddy and husband Vernon of Irving, Linda Roberts and husband Ray of Missouri, and Willa Faye Elrod of San Angelo; five nephews, Bob Porter, Brady Porter, Melvin Porter, Curtis Porter, all of New Mexico, and Mike Mayes of Tennessee; brother-in-law, Waldo Porter of New Mexico; five great nieces, and three great nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Scotty Johnson, Ross Johnson, Randy Hale, Calvin King, Kim Alexander, and Carey Wann.

Betty Lee Sowell Brasuell, 69, passed from this world to a much better place Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in the Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday in the funeral home.

She was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Brownwood to Robert Lee and Elma E. Sowell. She graduated from Bangs High School in 1954. At that time, she moved to Fort Worth and went to work for Southwestern Petroleum Company and retired after 39 years of faithful service. She attended and loved the Willow Creek Baptist Church in Fort Worth. She married the love of her life, Al Brasuell, in 1971 in Oklahoma.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one nephew.

Survivors include one stepson, Al Brasuell Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Choudrant, La.; two step-grandchildren of Louisiana; one brother, Waymon Sowell and his wife, Edna, of Sweetwater; one sister, Terrye Powell and her husband, Jud, of Bangs; one sister-in-law, Louise Sowell of Lubbock; step-great-grandchildren, a number of loving nieces and nephews and a host of good friends.

Mrs. Virginia Fuller, age 81, of Colorado City, died Monday evening at her residence. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Smith and Jim Baum officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Stamford Highland Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fuller was born June 10, 1924, in Stamford to Warren and Charslie Haizlip Tayman. Until a recent illness, Virginia had been a permanent fixture in Fuller Foods, owned by her and her late husband, Raymond Fuller. She was known as a “Classy” dresser and it didn’t matter whether she was working in the store or getting ready for a trip abroad. Topping off her attire were hairstyles that never allowed from one hair to be out of place. She also wore the finest jewelry, even at work.

Mrs. Fuller attended the University of Texas in 1932. Her first husband, Ted Myers Jr., was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He returned to the United States after the war. They had met at the Doghouse in Stamford. They were married on May 27, 1943, in Dallas. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1955, at the age of 38.

She then married Raymond Fuller on Jan. 8, 1961, and moved to Colorado City. He was a dyed in the wool Aggie and she quickly adapted to football trips each weekend during the season. By all accounts, she was fond of maroon, but not particularly the cars he bought in that color. Raymond and Virginia traveled the world. He enjoyed the sights; she was known to buy more clothes, while her wardrobe was world class, she did have a pair of shorts, although no one can vouch for having ever seen her wear them and she would never consider buying a pair of denim pants. One of her favorite dresses was a long flowing black gown, she wore it only on special occasions, such as the Mitchell County Centennial in 1981 when she attended all celebrations with her “girls” and played the town Madam.

As her daughters grew up and advanced in school, Virginia gave up her role as housewife and started working in Fuller Foods. She took over the bookkeeping chores and promptly put herself on payroll. She was very active in the community in all aspects, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Physical exercise was a lifelong passion for Virginia. Her two daughters remembered when they were very young she would do stretching exercises in the backyard. This love for working her muscles and mind, and continued until just a couple of years ago when she fell off her exercise bicycle, because she was wearing her “Barbie Shoes.”

She passed away peacefully last Monday. Her daughters Terry and Judy rejoiced in being able to tell their mother they loved her and goodbye.

She is survived by two daughters, Terry Smith and her husband, Larry, of Katy, and their children, Joey Smith and Jamey Smith, both of Dallas, Jeff Smith and his wife, Tara, of Lee’s Summitt, Mo., and their sons, Austin and Carson, and the much anticipated arrival of a great-granddaughter due in December; and Judy Honeycutt and her husband, Steve, and their children, Tyler and Bradley Honeycutt, all of Austin; three nephews and two nieces.

Millard Lecroy, 83, of Sweetwater died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, in the Roscoe Health Care Center.

A military graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in the Roscoe Cemetery with the Rev. Vernon Baker officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at 701 Main Street in Roscoe.

Mr. Lecroy was born on Dec. 18, 1921, in Alabama. He married Joyce Strother on Jan. 28, 1946, in Sweetwater. Mr. Lecroy was a heavy equipment operator and worked and retired from the City of Snyder for over 10 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Mr. Lecroy moved from Snyder to Sweetwater in 1987 and he had also lived in Roscoe. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lecroy of Sweetwater; two sons, Bobby Lecroy and his wife, Jenny, of Sweetwater, and Tommy Lecroy and his wife, Sandra, of Roscoe; two sisters, Edna Hair of Sweetwater and Lucille Weatherford of California; one brother, Louis Lecroy of Louisiana; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph R. Lecroy and Millie C. Lecroy; three brothers, Neal Lecroy, Ted Lecroy and Richard Lecroy; and one sister, Elizabeth Lawrence.

Lemma Tharpe Schneider, 92, of Roscoe died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, in the Scott and White Hospital in Temple.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in the Church of Christ in Roscoe with Phil Collard, Joe Baisden and Denny Sneed officiating.

Burial will follow in the Shep Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the funeral home in Roscoe.

Mrs. Schneider was born on July 13, 1913, in Anson. She married Edward C. Schneider on July 13, 1940, in Abilene. Mrs. Schneider was a member of the Roscoe Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Abilene High School and Abilene Christian College. Mrs. Schneider lived in Roscoe since 1946 and in Harker Heights the last two years. She was a school teacher in Roscoe and Sweetwater for 27 years.

Survivors include her husband, E.C. Schneider of Roscoe; three daughters, Denise Sprott and her husband, David, of Belton, Sharon Nault and Edwina Roswell and her husband, Tim, all of Shep; one brother, Glen Nichols and his wife, Bonnie, of Bryant; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lora Fay Swan Ogden, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior Oct. 9, 2005 at her home in Brownwood, in the presence of her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Rotan Church of Christ in Rotan with Mike Ensminger and Wes Eastman officiating. Burial will follow in the Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home.

Lora Fay Swan was born on May 24, 1925, in Dickens County to Albert Samuel Sanford Swan and Lillie May Ewell Swan. She moved to Rotan where she worked as a waitress until she met and married Willis Ogden on Feb. 24, 1951. They lived in Rotan for many years, where they owned and operated Hobbs Grocery and Ogden's Grocery. They raised their five children there and were members of the Rotan Church of Christ. She was a pink lady and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Willis Ogden Sr.; a daughter, Raylene Polk; parents Albert and Lillie Swan; infant sister, Lela May Swan; sister, Nadene Dozier; and brothers, Jimmy, Richard and Willie Swan.

Mrs. Ogden is survived by her children; Marie Suggs and her husband, Don, of Sweetwater, Wanda Lemons and her husband, Keith, of Brownwood, Pam McClain and her husband, David, of Blanket, Willis Ogden Jr. and his wife, Gayle, of Lake Brownwood; sisters, Bobbie Moore of Monahans, Jane Stone and her husband, Reint, of Dublin, Gracie Lee and her husband, Charles, of Odessa, Mary Walton and her husband, J.C., of Lake Granbury; sister-in-law, Wilda Leach and her husband, John, of Rotan; brothers, Luther Swan and his wife, Myrt, of Henrietta and James Swan and his wife, Ann, of Weatherford. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
