William Lee
Hollis, 74, retired Baptist Minister, died at 1:10 p.m. Sunday in Simmons Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lamar Street Baptist Church with the pastor, the
Rev. Orvelle Brantley and the Rev. Raymond Dunn, pastor of Fundamental Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories
cemetery directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Hollis was born Nov. 4, 1901, in Cottonwood and married Bessie Lee Davis,
July 6, 1921, in Munday. They moved to Sweetwater in 1928.
Mr. Hollis pastored the Newman Baptist Church for a number of years and was also employed by U.S. Gypsum Co. He recently served as pastor of the
Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Ailene McPeek of Gilmer
and Mrs. Wanda Mae Toland of
Sweetwater; two sons, the
Rev. W. Curtis Hollis of Midland and Audrey O. Hollis of Fort Worth; his mother,
Mrs. Minnie Hollis of Roscoe; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Daniels of Sweetwater; a brother, the
Rev. Ernest Hollis of DeRider, LA.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jack Richburg, Hughey Rogers, Rayford Neal, Carl Reed, Truitt Dickerson and Herman
Jeffery.
