– Funeral services for Sam Jack Renfro, 69,
retired farmer and former maintenance manager of Simmons Memorial Hospital
Sweetwater, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at

suffered a heart attack while working in the yard at his home Wednesday at 11:30
a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician.
Mr.
Renfro was born in Ellis County on Feb. 7, 1893 and had lived in Roscoe since
1926.
For two
and a half years he was maintenance manager with the hospital.
On
Sept. 20, 1914 he was married to Bessie Williford
at Van Zandt County.
He
was a member of the

Funeral
services will be at 2 p.m. at the church with the pastor, Rev. Glenn Roenfeldt
and Rev. G. A. Elrod officiating.
Burial will be in
Pallbearers will be M. T. Pointer, A. E. Lamb, B. M. Cooper, James Jones, Barney Wallace and Gene Rayburn.

Mrs. John Catchings Died Suddenly In Chicago, Ill.
Word has been received in Lovington of the death of Mrs. John Catchings in Chicago Thursday, while visiting friends and relatives there.
Mrs. Catchings, one of Lea County's oldtimers moved to Sweetwater, Texas, about a year ago to make her home.
She and Mr. Catchings homesteaded at Humble City in 1909 and at the time they moved to Sweetwater, donated a large ranch to the Abilene Christian College.. A cafeteria at the college was named for the Catchings.
They also reserved a 160 acre farm at Humble City to have as a home if they decided they didn't like Sweetwater.
Funeral services will be held in Sweetwater sometime Sunday. The time and place is not known.
Dr. Peters Dies; Rites Tuesday

Dr. Roland O. Peters, 60, surgeon and physician here since 1930 and local civic leader for many years, died at l:45 p.m. Sunday at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston after a two weeks illness.
A memorial service is set here for 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church the pastor, the Rev. William F. Henning officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the medical profession and Masons of this area.
The family has requested that those wishing to send memorials make donations to the Scholarship Fund of Texas Medical School of Nursing in charge of Mrs. A.R. Pierson, Galveston, or the local cancer society.
He came to Sweetwater in 1930 following his graduation from University of Texas Medical School at Galveston and established his practice here. In 1939 he built the Peters Clinic here.
Dr. Peters was born in Galveston, May 20, 1905, the son of the late Dr. O.K. Peters.
He was married to Virginia Mae Driver, a nurse of Slaton, in 1929.
He was a football star in Ball High School at Galveston and was guard for the Rice Owls in the 1920's.
During World War II, he was a captain during his two years service in the Army in several Southwest Pacific invasions and was a battalion surgeon. He returned here from the war, Dec. 5, 1945.
Dr. Peters was former city commissioner and mayor here, a Mason, Scottish Rite Mason, member of Suez Temple, past president of Sweetwater Lions Club, a member of Texas Medical Association and Texas Association of General Practice, and was also past president of Sweetwater Country Club.
The family home here is at 800 Silas St. Surviving Dr. Peters are his wife: a son, Roland O. Peters, Jr. of Sulphur Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Morton P. (Carolyn) Schercer of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Thord Dockery of Lubbock and a nephew, Dr. Karl Dockery of Lubbock.
The body is in state at Patterson Chapel of Memories. Internment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery here.
Dr. Peters had been active until a recent check-up in a Lubbock clinic and a trip to Galveston hospital two weeks ago.
A friend of Dr. Peters commented Monday, "He was really a man who met the human needs. He was passionately concerned in trying to meet the needs of everyone who called, regardless of age, creed or color."

WILLIAM EARL TUCKER
William Earl Tucker, 78, of Blackwell, died Friday, April 9, 2004 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Blackwell Monday, April 12, 2004 at 2 p.m. Rev. John Curry will officiate. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Pallbearers will be Will Lenoir, Ray Walls, Jay Lenoir, Bryant Lenoir, Darrell Hardin and Rodney Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the the Hylton Masonic Lodge #884.
Mr. Tucker was born Nov. 1, 1925 in Sweetwater. He married Gwen Ader June 8, 1954 in Georgetown. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church of Amarillo and a 32 degree Mason and member of Hylton Masonic Lodge #884.
Mr. Tucker retired from the Sandia National Lab in 1983 where he worked as a supervisor from 1953 to 1983. He had an Associate's degree from Amarillo College. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Tucker of Blackwell; one daughter, Mavanee Edgington and husband, Lee of Houston; one son, Blake Tucker and friend, Cindy of Las Vegas, Nev.; three step-daughters, Shirley Rustin of Garland, Marie White of San Antonio and Linda McLean of San Antonio; one sister, Helen Woods and husband, Cecil of Sweetwater; one brother, Howard Tucker and wife, Leona of Ft. Stockton; grandchildren, Adam Edgington and Abel Edgington, Travis Tucker and Cody Tucker; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, W.O. Tucker in August, 1984; his mother, Mary Tucker in February, 1985; and two brothers, E.J. Tucker in October, 1996 and Lavelle Tucker in May, 2001.
Memorials may be made to the Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department.

ALMA JEAN CORNETT
Alma Jean Cornett, 78, of Lamesa, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Medical Arts Hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, at First Baptist Church in Lamesa with Rev. Nathan McBride and Rev. Clifton Igo officiating. Burial followed at Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa.
Cornett was born June 11, 1925 in Clifton, Tenn. and married Henry Cornett April 5, 1944, in San Diego, Calif. She managed the Sears store in Lamesa for 28 years and was a 58-year member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Sue King of Sweetwater, Joan Paske of Lamesa and Judy Ann Beam of Lubbock; one sister, Helen Gilliam of Clinton, Tenn.; one brother, Earl York of Gainsville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 25, 1995; and one grandson, Hugh Allen King in 1986.

J.D. TAYLOR
J.D. Taylor, 72, of Blackwell died Sunday, April 17, 2005, in his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in the Blackwell First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Curry officiating.
Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral home of Sweetwater.
A family visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in the family home in Blackwell.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1932, in Bronte. Taylor married Anna B. Gallaway on Dec. 6, 1961, in San Angelo. He was a longtime resident of Nolan County and worked for Lone Star Industries as a utility man for many years. He was a member of the Blackwell Baptist Church and participated in gospel singings around the area for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Taylor of Blackwell; four sons, Joseph D. Taylor Jr. and his wife, Sharon, and Vance Taylor and his wife, Lucile, all of Blackwell, Robert Bledsoe and his wife, Ann, of Grovetown, Ga., and Tommy B. Bledsoe and his wife, Brenda, of Georgetown; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

ZID D. HERRING

BALLINGER - Zid D. Herring, 80, of Ballinger and father of a San Angelo resident, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1980 at 7 p.m. Saturday in Ballinger Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rains-Seale Funeral Home chapel with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Herring was born Nov. 10, 1900, in Coleman County. He was married to Mildred Scales May 15, 1927, in Breckenridge. He ranched in Nolan and Runnels counties all his life.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Billie Jean Herring of San Angelo, Hettie Mae Taylor of Fort Stockton, Joy Lee Owens of Maryneal; two sons, E.S. Herring of Junction, Z.D. Herring, Jr., of Fort Stockton; three sisters, Ione Touchstone of Ballinger, Edith Cervenka of Coleman, Maggie McKay of El Paso; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

MILDRED HERRING - Mildred was known as "Dobbie" Herring
Mrs. Mildred Herring, 83, longtime Ballinger resident, died Thursday, Aug. 20, in Ballinger Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, in Raines-Seal Funeral Home Chapel.
She married Zid Dalton Herring on May 15, 1927 in Breckenridge. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Survivors include three daughters, Billie Jean Herring, San Angelo, Hettie Mae Taylor, Ft. Stockton, and Joy Lee Owens, Maryneal; two sons, Z.D. Herring, Jr., Maryneal, and E.S. "Snookie" Herring, Maryneal; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
HARVIE FRANKLIN SAUNDERS

Funeral services for Harvie Franklin Saunders, 82, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Blackwell Cemetery. Newby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Saunders died Thursday of last week in a Sweetwater hospital.
He was born Feb. 23, 1883 in Anderson County. he moved to Coke County in 1915 and was a rancher and farmer. He was married to Bertie Cade Oct. 31, 1912 in Anderson County.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, John W. Saunders of Cortez, Co., H.F. Sanders, Jr. of Dallas, James H. Saunders of Blackwell and Rex Saunders of Robert Lee; four daughters, Mrs. Florine Van Zandt of Blackwell. Mrs. Evelyn McRorey of San Angelo, Mrs. Frances Sneed of Fort Worth and Mrs. Eula Fitzgerald of Bonnaza, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. Dona Meredith of Sacramento, Calif.; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

BERTIE CADE SAUNDERS
Bertie Cade Saunders, 94, of Blackwell died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1992, in a Loraine nursing home.
Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Blackwell Cemetery, directed by Shaffer Funeral Home. The Rev. Phil Bell, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Bronte conducted the service.
She was born Feb. 22, 1898 in Anderson County. She was a homemaker. She was married to Harvey Saunders in 1912 in Frankston, TX. They moved to Blackwell in 1915.
Survivors include three sons, Pete Saunders of Cortez, Co., and James Saunders and Rex Saunders both of Blackwell; four daughters, Flourine Van Zandt of Blackwell, Evelyn McRorey of San Angelo, Frances Snead of Fort Worth, and Eula Fitzgerald of Reno, Nev.; a brother, Roscoe Cade of Houston; a sister, Jewel Zimmerman of Fort Worth; twenty grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Bill and H.F. Saunders.

CARUTHERS
B.E. Caruthers, Jr., 70, of Blackwell died Monday, Sept. 7, 1992, in Gatesville.
Graveside service was held Friday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Blackwell Cemetery, directed by Shaffer Funeral Home.
He was born March 22, 1922, in Tulsa, OK, and was a longtime resident of Blackwell. He was retired from Reynolds Aluminum Co. and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, Bob Caruthers of Austin; a brother, Jack Caruthers of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Irene Debrinski of Tulsa and Juanita Castleberry of Fort Worth; and two grandchildren.
