JOHN H. LAMKIN
Died: June 15, 1933 at 57; shot on June 1, 1933 while
serving as a night watchman in Blackwell.
Born: April 13, 1876
Parents: John H. Lamkin and Amanda Edwards, both from
out of state.
Buried: Blackwell Cemetery on June 16, 1933
Comments: a former resident of Blackwell and former
Nolan County Sheriff's Deputy, was shot on June 1, 1933 while
serving as a night watchman in Blackwell. He was recognized
for his bravery by the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial
Fund. His name will be added to their memorial in Washington,
D.C.. He was shot in the back, then ran down by a vehicle as
it drove out of a filling station tha adjoined the warehouse.
He was bound 2 hours later when his wife and neighbors began a
search for him. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital where
he was treated for a gunshot would. He actually started to
recover from his wounds when he developed pneumonia from his wounds
and died 15 days after he was shot.

9, 2000 at Mulberry Manor Nursing Home in Stephenville.
Graveside
services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 at
Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mrs. Horton
was born Sept. 2, 1912 in Sweetwater. She married Robert A.
Horton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Sweetwater. She had lived the past four years in Stephenville,
moving from Sweetwater. She was a retired sales clerk.
Survivors
include one daughter, Patsy Feagan of Stephenville; one son,
Richard Horton of Spring; one sister,
Frances Myers of Bridgeport; six grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Horton on Sept. 1,
1955.

Feagan, 73, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, in her home.

She was born
on Aug. 6, 1931, in Sweetwater. She married Johnny Ray Feagan.
He had over 20 years of collected service as a bookkeeper with
the Texas University System and Texas Water Resources.

Mr. Feagan
was born Sept. 26, 1926 in Longworth. He married Patsy Fay
Horton on June 7, 1950 in Carlsbad, N.M. He was a Baptist. He
retired from Texas Agricultural Service. He was a graduate of
Newman High School, and graduated from Texas A&M University with
a B.S and Masters degree in Sociology. He played football and
ran track for Texas A&M and also for
Abilene Christian College.
Survivors
include his wife, Patsy Feagan of Stephenville; two sons, Ray
Feagan Jr. of Dublin and David Robert Feagan and wife, Emily, of
College Station; one daughter, Cynthia Susan Hancock and
husband, Jeff, of Smithville; three brothers, Joe Feagan of

Sweetwater; three sisters, Gerry Aston of Ft. Worth and Shirley

(Special) - Services for Rufus Benjamin Noble, 80, of Littlefield
will be at 4 p.m. today in Sunset Avenue Baptist Church with the

Noble died Monday,
May 5, 1997, in Lamb Healthcare Center in Littlefield.
He was born Jan.
10, 1917, in Blackwell. He married Lucille McCoy on May 4, 1944, in
Bend, Ore. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and he served
on the Board of the Senior Citizens. He was a member of Sunset
Avenue Baptist Church in Littlefield.
He was a city
judge in Littlefield from 1969 to 1974. They moved to Blackwell in
1974, and they returned to Littlefield in 1994.
Survivors include
his wife; two sons, Brian of Muleshoe and Bruce of McCamey; two
daughters, Carol Noble Jenkins of Merkel and Linda Noble Murphy of
Sherman; and two sisters, Lola Lentz and Jude Moore, both of
Littlefield.
The family

Myrtle Lucille Noble
LITTLEFIELD -- Myrtle Lucille Noble, 77, of McCamey and formerly of
Littlefield, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001 in a McCamey Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 at
Hammons Funeral Home Chapel in Littlefield with Curtis Shelburne
officiating. Burial followed in the Littlefield Cemetery under the
direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield.
Mrs. Noble was born on Nov. 12, 1923 in Troy, Kan. She married Rufus
Benjamin Noble on May 4, 1944 in Bend, Ore. They moved to
Littlefield from Arkansas in 1969. In 1973, they moved to Blackwell,
where they lived until moving back to Littlefield in 1994. She moved
to McCamey in July of 1997.
Mrs. Noble enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting. She was a homemaker
and a member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church in Littlefield.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Noble of Muleshoe and Bruce Noble
of McCamey; two daughters, Carol Noble Jenkins of Merkel and Linda
Noble Murphy of Sherman; three sisters, Mable Bird of Bend, Ore. and
Mary Puddy and Marvis Reynolds, both of Prineville, Ore.; five
brothers, Marvin McCoy and Melvin McCoy, both of Prineville, Ore.,

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Noble, on May 5,

Warrant Officer 2 Scott Jamar
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Scott Jamar, 32, of
Sweetwater, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003.
Scott Jamar was killed when the Blackhawk
helicopter he was being transported in crashed in Iraq.
Jamar was a chief warrant officer second class in the United
States Army. The Blackhawk was reportedly part of the
U.S. force that was battling enemy forces near the city of
Karbala.
He was born on December 15, 1970 in Abilene.
Survivors include his father and mother, Wayne Jamar
and Jennifer Jamar, of Granbury; two sons, Kyle and
Brennan Jamar, of Alabama; one sister, Elizabeth
Jamar, of Dallas; one half-brother, Paul Allen,
of Georgia; grandparents, Odean Jamar of Huntsville,
Ark. and Neva and Dan Hymer of Fort Worth.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard
Jamar.

at Sweetwater Mustang Bowl with full military honors.

AGED VETERAN DIES
John Langley, 82, died at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Stafford on
Concho street Monday and was buried at Westbrook this afternoon at
1:00 o'clock.
Mr.
Langley came here three months ago from Dallas to visit his
daughter.
Surviving him are three sons and three daughters. One son from
Odessa and a daughter, Mrs. Chandler of
Dallas were present when he died.

Allen B. Mosley, 89, of 1408 James,
died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday in Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 4, 1891, in Madisonville, he married
Bessie Smith Dec. 19, 1915, in Winters in the home of her
parents, the late Rev. and Mrs. E.E. Smith.
The
couple lived and farmed in Wingate for 30 years. They moved to
Sweetwater in 1948, where he was a butcher for J.M. Lawrence Piggly
Wiggly Store for 12 years. He was a member and Deacon of First
Baptist Church.

Sweetwater and current resident of Plano, passed away
Friday, Aug. 20, 1999.

p.m.

Lawton Dacus, 87, of Midland died Wednesday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Gardens of
Memories in Sweetwater with Tyrone Lee Kelly officiating.

Mr. Dacus was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Blum and married Maxine
Patmore on Sept. 5, 1947. As a young man he lived in
Hermleigh and Ira, then moved to Snyder before he joined the
U.S. Army during World War II. In 1971 he moved to
Sweetwater from Snyder, and to Midland in 1976.
He was a member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Midland; his daughters, Joyce
Evans and Christine Brown, both of Midland; his brother, Roy
W. Dacus of Aledo; his sister, Mattie Jane Bullard of Fort
Worth; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.

ODESSA - Raymond May, age 87, a retired supervisor of United
States Gypsum (USG), died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000 at the home
of his family in Odessa.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26,
2000 at Arlington Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. Burial
followed in Oak Grove Memorial in Irving, under the
direction of Arlington Funeral Home.
Mr. May was born May 28, 1913 in Proctor. He married Ruby
Lucille in Sweetwater. He was a resident of Irving for 30
years, former resident of Watauga and moved to Odessa in
April. He worked for 36 years for United States Gypsum.
Survivors include two sons, Dellis May and his wife, Pamela,
of North Richland Hills and Dennis May and his wife,
Rebecca, of Odessa; one brother, J.T. May of Nevada; one
sister, Ruby Rogenstein of Nevada; 10 grandchildren; and,
five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruby
Lucille May; and, one son, Leland Wayne May.

welder and dairyman. He was Baptist.

Mrs. Griffin was born Nov. 13, 1926 in Bronte to Joseph Hugo
Bramlett and Gertrude Wallis Richardson. She attended
schools in Bronte and Blackwell. She married Alfred Ray
Griffin on July 17, 1947 in McCaulley. A long-time McCaulley
resident, she was a homemaker and a member of the McCaulley
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Griffin of McCaulley;
one son and daughter-in-law, James and Cindy Griffin of
Sweetwater; five daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and
Donald Collins of Hamlin, Carol Dennis Young and John Sissom

Mrs. Daves was born Feb. 21, 1931 in Ranger. She was a

one daughter, Marsha Otterstedt and husband, Jeff of
Granville, Ohio; and two grandsons, Tyler and Kyle

2001 at a Midland health center.

Weathersbee Funeral Home Chapel in Rotan. Burial followed at
the Belvieu Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee
Funeral Home.
She was born July 31, 1911 in Grandbury. She raised four
sons, did volunteer work and served her church.

Sweetwater, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 in a Scottsdale,
Ariz. nursing home.

Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater with Rev. Mark
Alexander officiating. Arrangements were made under the
direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Mrs. Webb was born Sept. 28, 1906 in Conway, Ark. She
married Earl Webb on March 11, 1928 in Sweetwater. She was a
member of First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater. She
had lived in Arizona the past two and one-half years and in
Sweetwater all her life before that. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Webb of Scottsdale,
Ariz.; one daughter, Bettye Earl Hempel of Scottsdale,
Ariz.; two granddaughters, Carrie Louise Hempel and Melissa
Ann Hempel, both of Los Angeles, Calif.

Judy Annette Seaton Birkenfeld, 38, of Sweetwater, died
Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 in an Abilene hospital.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001
at the First Baptist Church in Rotan with Rev. Joel McCoy
officiating. Burial followed in the Hobbs Cemetery under the
direction of Weathersbee Funeral Home in Rotan.
Mrs. Birkenfeld was born Aug. 31, 1962 in Spur to Joe and
Jennette Seaton of Jayton. She was a homemaker and mother of
one. She had lived in the area for 10 years. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater, a Band
Booster and Vice President of Volunteers at School.
Survivors include her parents, Joe and Jennette Seaton of
Jayton; one daughter, Savanna Birkenfeld; three brothers,
Joe Seaton, Jr. of Tye, Tim Seaton of Denton and Wes Seaton
of Jayton; three nieces; four nephews; and one great-nephew.

service will be at 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 at Saint
Alberts Catholic Church in Roscoe with Father Mike Goode

Born Oct. 26, 1934 in Karnes City, Texas, Mr. Hernandez was
a retired farm hand. He was a Catholic. He had lived in
Nolan County most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hernandez of Roscoe;
five sons, Jessie Hernandez, Steve Hernandez, Evaristo
Hernandez Jr. and Andrew Hernandez, all of Roscoe, and
Robert Hernandez of Snyder; five daughters, Alicia Vrubel
and Jamie Hernandez, both of Roscoe, Lydia Guerrero,
Virginia Monreal, Guadalupe Alaniz, all of Sweetwater; three
sisters, Mary Guzman, Louisa Guzman and Cruz Limones, all of
Sweetwater; six brothers, Charlie Hernandez of Lubbock,
Elisio Hernandez, Pete Hernandez, Chano Hernandez and Thomas
Hernandez, all of Sweetwater, and Joseph Hernandez of
Loraine; 24 grandchildren; and, nine great-grandchildren.

Ima Leola "Imogene" Pace, 97, of Corpus Christi, died
Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at her residence.
Graveside services were held 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001
at the Weslaco City Cemetery. Arrangements were made under
the direction of Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.
Mrs. Pace was born in Roscoe on Oct. 5, 1903 to William H.
and Edna Reed McBurnett of Roscoe. She was a graduate of the
Sweetwater school system. She married Asa Clyde "Ace" Pace
of Sweetwater on Aug. 18, 1923. She and her husband moved to
Weslaco where she resided until 1985.
Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Keir Thompson, and
husband, Baldwin of McAllen, Jo Ann Logan and husband,
George of Billings, Mont. and Helen Francis Marcum of Corpus
Christi; one sister, Mrs. Almarine McDonald of Harlem,
Mont.; ten grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Asa Clyde Pace on
Jan. 4, 1967; one son, J.W. Pace on Jan. 20, 1950; and two
grandsons, David Marcum and Vincent Logan.

Onesimo (O.M.) Jacques, 78, of Sweetwater, died Thursday,
Nov. 15, 2001 at his son's residence in Sweetwater.

Goode officiating. Burial will follow, with military
graveside rites provided by the Nolan County Honor Guard, at

Mr. Jacques was born August 27, 1923 in Rotan. He married
Irene Torres on Feb. 26, 1947 in Sweetwater. He was a member
of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and worked as a
fence builder and farm laborer. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army and served in World War II. He was a past member of
Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club. He had lived in Sweetwater
most of his life.
Survivors include: one son, Rodney Jacques and wife, Delia,
of Sweetwater; one daughter, Lydia Steele and husband, Gene,
of Uvalde; one sister, Eloise Rodriquez of Sweetwater; five
grandchildren; and, four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Jacques, on June
22, 1998; and a daughter, Belinda Ahangarzadeh, on July 18,
1979.

Mrs. Crain was born June 3, 1941 in Haskell. She was the
daughter of the late Andrew and Bonnie Storrs of Sweetwater.
She married George Ballard Crain on Aug. 15, 1959 in
Sweetwater at Broadway Baptist Church.

son, Chad Crain of Copperas Cove; one daughter, Sherry Allen

Born April 2, 1923 in Austin to Lee and Jessie Booth, Mrs.
Garner was a resident of Sweetwater for 20 years. She
graduated from the University of Texas and had been employed
with the Texas Department of Human Resources for 10 years.
She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church.

HAMLIN - Theodore T. "T-Bone" Brady II, 87, of San Angelo
and formerly of Sweetwater, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at
his home.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001 at
the First United Methodist Church in Hamlin. Burial was in
Fairview Cemetery in Tuxedo under the direction of
Foster-Adams Funeral Home of Hamlin.
Mr. Brady was born on Feb. 9, 1914 in Stonewall County. He
was the son of the late T.T. and Eula O. "Patsy" (Busby)
Brady. He attended Stonewall County rural schools and
married Perry Lou Copenhaver on June 24, 1939 in Abilene.
She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1999. Mr. Brady was a
Texas State Highway Patrolman from 1940 until 1957 when he
retired. He also worked for U.S. Gypsum in Sweetwater.
He moved to Hamlin from Sweetwater in 1970 and to San Angelo
in 1998. He was a member of the First Christian Church in
Sweetwater and attended First United Methodist Church in
Hamlin. He was a member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge and the
Hamlin Rotary Club.
Survivors include one son, Theodore T. Brady, III and wife,
Ann of Austin; one daughter, Connie Hicks and husband, Bob
of San Angelo; a son-in-law, James McConeghy of Bowie; four
brothers, Tom Brady of Hamlin, Charles Brady and Henry
Brady, both of Austin and Jim Brady of Utah; two sisters,
Mae Bush of Lubbock and Rose Turnbull of Hobbs, N.M.; six
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sweetwater Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 571.

Bobbie Rankin, 75, of Loraine, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000 at
a local care center.

Cemetery with Rev. Robert Bracy officiating. Kiker-Seale
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Rankin was born Sept. 17, 1925 in Roscoe to Charles and
Nancy Carlile. She married Roy Elmo Rankin on Feb. 6, 1943
in Champion. She had been a lifelong resident of Mitchell
County. She was a retired nurses aide and a Baptist.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Rankin and wife, Betty, of
Loraine; one brother, Charles Carlile of Sweetwater; one
grandson, Mark Neal Rankin of Milwaukee, Wis.; one
granddaughter, Nillki Rankin of Loraine; and two
great-grandchildren.

Milton John Wood, 81, of Sweetwater, died Sunday, Feb. 4,
2001 at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.

officiating. Burial followed the graveside services that
were held 2 p.m. at Old Runnels Cemetery in Ballinger.

Mr. Wood was born March 21, 1919 in Runnels County. He
married Martha Jo Lewis on Sept. 27, 1941 in Runnels County.
He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church and had lived in
Sweetwater since 1948. He was a World War II veteran,
serving in the U.S. Navy and worked for U.S. Gypsum Company
of which he retired from after 33 years.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Wood; one son, Johnny Joe
Wood and wife, Linda Marie, of Clyde; five daughters, Linda
Kay Kilgore and husband, Ralph, of Sweetwater, Micky Lowry
of Brazoria, Martha Lee Johns and husband, Gene, of Maryneal,
Ida Fay Chesshire and husband, Ron, of Monterey, Calif. and
Sherry Weems and husband, Bob, of Sweetwater; two sisters,
Margaret Hallmark of Ballinger and Edna Merl Owens of

16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Rev. Herbert M. Zimmerman, 90, of Roscoe died Monday, July
2, 2001 at his residence.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001 at
First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe with Pastor Glenn
Dittmer officiating. Graveside services and burial will be
held Monday, July 9, 2001 at Chokio Lutheran Cemetery in
Chokio, Minn. Arrangements were made under the direction of
McCoy Funeral Home in Roscoe.
Honorary pallbearers were the men of First Salem Lutheran
Church.
Mr. Zimmerman was born on May 14, 1911 in Chokio, Minn. He
married Maude Herschap on Feb. 23, 1954 in Corpus Christi.
He had lived in Roscoe since 1968 and was a member of First
Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe and the Roscoe Lions Club.
He attended St. Paul Lutheran College in Minneapolis, Minn.
from 1928 to 1932 and graduated from Wartburg Seminary of
Dubuque, Iowa in 1933. He taught Parochial School and was a
supply pastor at Buffalo Lake, Minn. in 1934 and then served
as an interim pastor in Tuttle, N.D. in 1935.
He was ordained into the ministry on Nov. 17, 1935 by his
hometown pastor in Chokio, Minn. and accepted his first call
to Texas the same month. He served parishes at Shilo,
Sublime, Orange Grove, Marion, Weimar and Roscoe. He retired
in Roscoe in 1979. After retirement he continued the
ministry by filling in at surrounding community churches. He
was honored in 2000 for 65 years of service in the Lutheran
Ministry.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Merz of Austin and
Connie Groff of Abilene; four sons, Mark Zimmerman of
Midland, Kenny Zimmerman of Caldwell, Reuben Zimmerman of
Lindale and Rodney Kelso of Seguin; three sisters, Gertrude
Brunkow of Herman, Minn., Doris Heuer of Minneapolis, Minn.
and Joy Dougherty of Lake Barrington, Ill.; two brothers,
Victor Zimmerman of Chokio, Minn. and Phillip Zimmerman of
Minneapolis, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Schauer
Zimmerman in 1952; his second wife, Lena Maude Herschap
Zimmerman in 1989; and one son, Brian Zimmerman.

Mrs. Lanier was born Oct. 16, 1946 in Santa Anna. She
married Bob Lanier in 1975 in Snyder. She was a graduate of
Sweetwater High School in 1965. She was a supervisor for the
Texas Department of Criminal Justice Snyder Distribution
Center for eight years and before that had worked as a
beautician in Sweetwater and Snyder several years. She also
was a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Lanier of Snyder; one
son, Scott Lanier and wife Tyfani of Amarillo; her father,
Melvin Martin of Sweetwater; one sister, Linda Fry of
Amarillo; one brother, Greg Martin of Dallas; one
stepdaughter, Cindy Hendley of Eula; one son-in-law, Scott
Hendley of Potosi; two grandsons, Cody Lanier and Justin
Lanier, both of Amarillo; two step-grandchildren, Shay
Hendley and Sloan Hendley, both of Eula; and two nieces,
Pamela Ludlum of Sweetwater and Janet Watson of Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Martin on

Mr. Cox was born on Aug. 11, 1949 in Sweetwater. He was a

School and attended West Texas State University. He worked

Mr. Morales was born June 15, 1918 in Eagle Lake, Texas. He
was a member of Saint Albert's Catholic Church. He was a TV
and radio repairman and also worked at Roscoe Cemetery for
Mr. Bennett.
He is survived by three brothers, Jesse Morales, of Friona,
Morris Morales, of Eagle Lake, Jimmy Morales, of Sweetwater;
four sisters, Maria Guerrero, of Gail, Belia Torres, of
Albuquerque, NM., Ruperta Gonzalez, of Roscoe, Elvira Olvera,
of Roscoe; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother on June 25, 1979; his
father on June 28,1979; one brother on January 6, 1995.
Pallbearers were Robert Morales, Andre' Morales, Albert
Morales Jr., Chris Morales, Martin Morales and Jesse
Morales. Honorary pallbearer was Steve Gonzalez.
Wynona Jones
Dickenson
Wynona Jones Dickenson was born in Hamilton County, Texas,
on February 12, 1908. She enrolled in Texas Technological
College in 1925 as a member of its first freshman class, and
she graduated in three years, receiving her diploma in 1928.
She received a Masters degree from Hardin-Simmons
University. She married Curtis Dickenson in 1928, and they
were married for more than 52 years prior to his death in
1980. They lived in Stamford, Texas, for more than 25 years
and then moved to Sweetwater, Texas.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 21 at 11 a.m.
at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater with Dr. Darris
Egger officiating. McCoy Funeral is in charge of
arrangements. Mrs. Dickenson passed away Sunday, April 16 at
Sears Methodist Nursing Center in Abilene.
Wynona Dickenson was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Sweetwater, the Daughters of the American
Revolution, Colonial Dames, the Daughters of the
Confederacy, and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Curtis was a 42 year employee of West Texas Utilities
Company, retiring as District Sales Manager of the Stamford
District. Wynona Dickenson taught school in and around
Stamford while they lived had lived there, and she taught in
Sweetwater until she retired.
Wynona Dickenson is survived by her son and his wife, Bob
and Joan Dickenson of Abilene, and by her daughter and her
daughter's husband, Nancy and Larry Meeks of San Angelo. She
is also survived by three grandchildren Mike Meeks of
Midland; Karen Fox of San Angelo; and Jim Dickenson of
Abilene. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren,
Kyle Meeks; Kayci Meeks; and Kody Fox.

Rites Sunday
James Thomas Collins, Sr., 74,
former resident of Sweetwater, died Friday at 6:30 p.m. in
Cowper Hospital in Big Springs after a few months illness.
Funeral services are set for
Sunday at 4 p.m. at Highland Heights Methodist Church with the
Pastor, Rev. Charles Gates, and Rev. Albert Cooper of Ackerly
officiating.
Burial will be in Sweetwater
Cemetery with Cate-Spencer Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
He was born in Rowlett May
18, 1888, and moved to Sweetwater in 1905. He was employed here
by the Santa Fe and Texas and Pacific railroads from 1911 until
1938 when he moved to New Mexico. For 17 years he was a contract
driver for a school bus, retiring in 1956.
In the past three years he lived
in Lenorah.
He was married to Thelma Gotcher
who died in 1918 and in 1924 he married to Eleanor Lynn.
Survivors are his wife; two sons,
Royal Gene Collins of Ackerly and James T. Collins Jr of San
Angelo; a step-son, Boyce Lyn of Abilene; two brothers, Willie
Collins of Perryton and Robert Collins of Rowlett; two
half-brothers, Lloyd Collins and Cliff Collins of Dallas; 11
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dickie Belt,
John B. Hefner, Walter Lee Armstrong, Gerald Armstrong, Randy
Collins and Charles Ray Montgomery.
LARUE JEWEL HENDON
Larue Jewel Hendon, 601 Jack Lambert Dr.,
died Saturday, Feb. 11, 1984 at 8:11 p.m., at her home.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in
McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. F.E. Healer and Rev. L.C. Case of
Tyler, Tex. will be officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden of
Memories.
She was born Laura Jewel Horne June 28,
1918 in Seymore, Tex. and married Rev. O.A. Hendon on March 7, 1939
in Lubbock. He died in 1970. She was a private nurse and
homemaker and had lived in Nolan County since 1939.
She is survived by one daughter, Cindy
Hendon of Sweetwater; two sons, Kenneth Dean Hendon of big Spring
and Andley Glen Hendon MO; one sister, Daisy Barker and eight
grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be R.C. "Sonny" Watts,
Raymond Lambert, Jimmy Davis, Kelton Williamson, Barron Bird and
Dwight Gunn.

LOCAL MAN HURT IN TRAIN MISHAP ---

Orval A. Hendon of 1000 Oak St. is in
critical condition in Abilene's Hendrick Memorial Hospital after
being injured in a car-train accident about 2:18 p.m. Friday.
The car Hendon was driving was in
collision with a T&P freight train about 3 1/2 miles west of
Sweetwater. The train was traveling east.
He was taken to Simmons Memorial Hospital
by A-1 Ambulance and later transferred to hendrick Hospital where he
was in the intensive care unit.

Ardmore Hendon, 59, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lamar St.
Baptist Church with the Rev. I.W. Cass of Odessa, the Rev. F.E.
Healer of Sweetwater, and the Rev. Orval Brantley pastor,
officiating.
Burial will be in Garden of memories
Cemetery under the direction of Patterson-McCoy Funeral Home.
Rev. Hendon, an ordained Baptist
minister, died at 12:15 a.m. today at Edge Cliff Manor. He had
been unconscious since he was injured in a car-train accident Oct.
18, 1968 several miles west of Sweetwater.
He had been pastor of Baptist churches in
Hilton, Eskota, and Divide before moving to Sweetwater in 1942.
Born June 2, 1911 in Ardmore, Oklahoma,
he married the former Larue Jewell Horn on March 7, 1939 in Lubbock.
He had worked as a painter while in Sweetwater.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a
daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Clowers of Sweetwater; two sons, Dean of
Merkel, and Audley Glen of Fort Orr, California; two sisters, Mrs.
meta Coker of Wichita Falls, and Mrs. Connie McKown of Austin; a
brother, V.O. Hendon of Overton; and three grandchildren.

Billye Wagner Bryson
SWEETWATER - Billye Wagner Bryson, 81, died Wednesday, Jan.
15, 2003, in New Orleans.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sweetwater
Cemetery with the Rev. James Baker officiating. Memorial services
will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in
Texhoma Community Center in Texhoma,
Okla. Arrangements are by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Bryson was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Piney.
He was a World War II veteran and a Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Billy
Cleve Bryson of Plainview, Edward Hall
Bryson of Stratford and
Timothy Clay Bryson of Dalhart; four
sisters, Lucille Holladay of
Sweetwater, Inez Horner and
