"John Crawford Barnett, the son of Willia Hiram and Deby Barnett, was born in Panola County on November 24, 1846. Int he Civil War, he was Division Officer for the 34th TX Cavalry, C.S.A. When the war ended in 1865 he returned to his home in Texas.
"He married Casandra Sinclair in 1866. The Barnetts cleared land and built a home in the Galloway Community. Besides farming, John also found time to serve as minister for the Methodist Church.
"Cass took care of the house and looked after the children. Since the Barnett's had fourteen children, including two sets of twins, this was no small job.
"John performed the marriage ceremony for his eldest son, William Joseph and Martha J. Harrison. William and Martha's children were Joseph Eddie, James Oscar, William Artie, Julia, Lula and George.
"James Lane died in 1870 at the age of ten months.
"Adella married Joe Childress and they had five children Nellie, Henry, Cammie, Bennie and Ethel.
"Lee Ellah died at age five in 1878.
"Mattie married Dick Basham and their children were Belvin, Loma, Eva, Daisy, R.D., Dell and Clyde.
"John Maxey married Florence Adams and their chilfren were Williard, Henry, Vesta, Fred, Nellie, Randolph, Calvin, Huey Eston, Norma and Loranza. Mattie and Maxey were twins.
"Elizah F. married Nealie Hanson and their children were Gilie, Audry, Ivy Dale, Rubin, Corman, J.D. and Telsillee.
"Elisha D. died in 1878 at the age of ten months. Elisha and Elizah were twins.
"Henry Pinkham married Altie Barnett and they had five children Lacy, Mattie, Allen, Wayne and Henry Phillips.
"Effie married Tom McDaniel and their children were Irby, Daisy and Crawford.
"Ellen married Bud Sykes and they had four children Katie, Lloyd Leo, Corene and Clotel.
"George F. married Lizzie Harrison and their children were Mary, Arnold, Loma, Ruby and Edward. Later, he married Mertle Rutherford and their children were Mildred, Couglas, Baker, Annie Louise, Horace, Bill Joe, Doris and Chester Ray.
"Mamie C. married Walter Hurt and they had four children Gladys, Oma Lee, Sudie and Daphene.
"Harvey married Bertha Barnett and they had two children Jimmy and Denison. Henry and Harvey married sisters.
"Two of John and Cass's daughters still reside in Texas. Mamie Barnett lives in Richardson and Effie Barnett McDaniel lives in Gladewater."
