Samuel John Brasher
Information furnished by Marylee W. KnightSamuel John Brasher was born Apr. 22, 1842 in AL. On Dec. 2, 1875 in Panola County he married Julia Monteree Yarborough the daughter of James Wiley and Martha Ann (Dupriest) Yarborough. She was born Feb. 8, 1856 and died Aug. 8, 1921. Samuel died Nov. 25, 1909 and both are buried in Harris Chapel Cemetery. Their children include the following:
Richard Harrison "Dick" Brasher who married Annie Crawford. Dick and Annie had one child, Richard M. Brasher who was born and died Mar 6, 1916. Dick and Annie owned and operated a large two-story hotel in downtown Beckville that was famous throughout East Texas for the quality and quantity of the food that was served family-style at each meal. Dick, Annie and their child are buried at Youngblood Cemetery near Beckville.
Julia Bea Brasher was born Nov. 24, 1877 and died Sep. 1956. She married I.W. "Tot" Williams who was born July 3, 1879 and died Nov. 6, 1944. They are buried in Harris Chapel Cemetery.
James Wylie Brasher was born Sept 25, 1879 and died Apr. 29, 1938. He married Daisey Lutelia Rhiddlehoover who was born Apr 10, 1879 and died Aug. 23, 1913. They are buried in Macedonia Cemetery, west of Carthage. Their children were Richard H. Brasher and Helen Brasher who married Douglas Harris and made their home in Beckville.
Sallie Maggie Brasher was born Oct. 10, 1881 and died July 5, 1968. She married James Wych Gray who was born Mar. 9, 1875 and died Apr 15, 1953. They are buried in Harris Chapel Cemetery along with their son Lindsey Anthony Gray who was born Jan. 15, 1918 and died Jan. 18, 1942.
Cora Naomi Brasher was born Nov. 25, 1883 and died Sep 9, 1922. She married Daniel Lloyd Beauchamp, the son of John Harvey and Allie (Pruitt) Beauchamp. He was born 1881, died 1951 and both are buried in Youngblood Cemetery west of Beckville. Their children are Raymond Doyle Beauchamp, John Wendell Beauchamp, Cora Elsie Beauchamp, Daniel Engle Beauchamp, Kathryn Beauchamp, Gertrude Beauchamp and Allie Fayne Beauchamp.
Esther K. "Essie" Brasher was born Apr. 28, 1886 and died Nov. 20, 1959. She married Will Capps. The Capps had a large, white frame home in Beckville that was surrounded by a tall, white picket fence. Essie loved beautiful flowers and her yard stayed in almost constant bloom year around under her untiring and gentle care. Their children were Will Capps, Jr. and Belva Capps who married Paul Boyette. Essie and Will Capps, Belva and Paul Boyette are all buried in Langley Cemetery east of Beckville.
Julius Dewey Brasher was born Feb. 8, 1898 and died Nov. 20, 1961. He married Anna Jay Gladys Williams, the daughter of Alvin G. and Daisey D. (Barlow) Williams. Julius and Gladys maintained an active role in all civic functions of Beckville, with Julius playing a major role in bringing many of the early improvements to the city such as a water system, paved streets and a sewer system. Both he and Gladys were active members of the Beckville Methodist Church and Gladys was a charter member of the Beckville Year 'Round Garden Club and the Beckville Music Club. Their children are Dewey Glen Brasher and Betty Ann Brasher who married Duane Puckett.
