Hendricks Cemetery
Surveyed by Don Austin, ca 1970Submitted by Marylee Knight
Location: Approximately one mile northeast of the City of Tatum and just east of the Panola County line
Hendricks Cemetery is in the same area as the Greenwood Cemetery, only a few hundred yards farther north, just off of Trammel's Trace as it led to a ferry crossing on the Sabine near Hendrick's Lake. The cemetery is fenced off with an old barbed wire fence, and is inside a grove of large trees, predominantly oak. The area fenced off is fairly large, so there could be more graves here than the 30-50 estimated. Some of the graves are marked only with small steel plaques provided by funeral homes, but surprisingly enough, some are still legible after having been there many years. The earliest known grave is dated 1922, but most likely there are earlier graves than that here. The cemetery is located on fairly level ground.
