Directions: From Carthage go westbound on State Highway 315. Turn left on to FM 1971 and continue southbound on FM 1971 until you go across the bridge at Dotson's Crossing on Lake Murvaul. Turn left on to Panola County Road 174 and continue until you come to a "T" intersection. Turn right and continue for approximately one half mile. Cemetery will be visible from the roadway on the right hand side. As an illegal trash dump has been started on the edge of the road right in front of the cemetery Panola County has placed a "No Dumping" sign there. Cemetery is located on private property.
An attempt to further research the families buried here met with little success. Two marriages were documented and so noted below. On the 1860 Census of Panola County TX Metida is found with her parents Mathew and Rachel (?) Carico. On the 1900 Census of Panola County the only household that could be found was that of Theodore C. Holton W/M born Jan 1876 in LA (as were his parents) Occupation: Salesman Married for two years to Gertrude Holton W/F born June 1881 in TX (as were her parents) and they had no children.
Most of the markers are homemade ones in which a wooden form was built then filled with concrete. The names and dates were etched into the concrete. These markers do not appear to be very old as the wooden forms still surround some of them and are just now beginning to decay.
