Mason Cemetery
Surveyed by Don Austin ca 1981Transcribed by Marylee W. Knight
Location: About one mile south of the intersection of FM 2517 and FM 31 in the southeastern quadrant of Panola County.
It is estimated that there are approximately 5-10 graves in this cemetery, but no identifiable graves.
The following description of this cemetery was given by Don Austin in his privately circulated book "42 Lost Cemeteries".
"The exact location of the Mason Cemetery is not known, since no evidence of its existence was found. It is known to have been on level ground situated atop a high bluff known as Mason's bluff, which overlooks the west bank of Socagee Creek. It is said that early graves were marked by cedar trees, which have apparently been cut down, and that the cemetery had a fence around it at one time. It is not known exactly how many graves are here, but information suggests that the cemetery was quite small. Members of the Mason, McDaniel and Shaw families are believed to be buried here."
