Murray Cemetery
Surveyed by Don Austin ca 1981Transcribed by Marylee W. Knight
Location: About two miles north of the Fairplay Community, near Murray Branch, on the east end of Panola County Road 236.
There are only two unmarked graves known to be in this cemetery and these are known only through oral tradition.
The following description of this cemetery was given by Don Austin in his privately circulated book "42 Lost Cemeteries":
"A true backyard family cemetery, located behind an old house on top of a hill in open country. An old roadbed runs north to south just east of the old home place. There are said to be two graves here, neither are marked nor identifiable, containing two women by the last name of Murray, a mother and her daughter who died while in pregnancy. No additional names or dates are known. The house has been vacant for several years and the graves have been here for many, many years, but exactly how many is unknown. Nearby Murray Branch is named after this family."
