Roadside Cemetery
Surveyed by Don Austin ca 1981Location: About one mile northeast of the Brooks Community, along the Old Brooks - Youngblood Road. This would place it between Panola County Road 241 and Connor Branch.
Only two unmarked graves are known to be in this location and they are known only through oral tradition.
Don Austin gave the following description of this cemetery in his privately circulated book "42 Lost Cemeteries".
"Two unmarked graves, found alongside an old roadbed, formerly a road linking Brooks and Youngblood communities. Shown to me by Mr. Ray Waldrop of Carthage, they are distinguishable only by two small depressions, each about six inches deep and about three feet apart, directly in line with one another. Mr. Waldrop has known of the location for many years, but no one seems to know who was buried here. Being next to a road like this, it is highly possible that transients were buried here. Former digging attempts accounts for the depressions. This is just one good example of the many unmarked and yet unlocated graves that exist all over the country. The site is found in woodlands of average thickness."
