Alexander, L. J. - Died 1897; left wife in needy circumstances and Masons gave her $3. 00. No grave marker found in 2003

Alsup, James F. - Died Oct. 30, 1878; Masonic rites at Macedonia Cemetery; Received the three degrees of the Blue Lodge Sept 1872 also Royal Arch degree in 1872 (Book 2, page 33); Funeral rites were not performed at the time of Alsup's because the Carthage Lodge had demised at that time. The next spring a new Carthage Lodge was chartered , so on May 17, 1879 the Lodge "met in a Special Meeting called for the purpose of performing the funeral service of J. F. Alsup who departed this life on Oct. 30, 1878. The Chapter was opened and then went to meet at Macedonia Church on the 18th of May at 11:00 o'clock to perform the Masonic ritual around the grave of J. F. Alsup"; On May 23, 1879 "on a motion, the Chapter was ordered that the jewels be draped in mourning and the companions wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days" The Secretary of the Lodge was ordered to furnish the widow of J. F. Alsup with a "certificate of his standing with the Chapter". This would be Old Macedonia Cemetery, no grave marker found in 2003. James F. Alsup was born in Giles Co, TN in 1831. He married Elmira B. House, the daughter of Sihon House, on Aug. 26, 1857 in Panola Co. He served the CSA with three years in the TX Lancers Volunteers. He joined the Carthage Lodge in 1871.

Anderson, T. L. (Thomas Lee) - Died Dec. 13, 1913, Resolutions Committee S. S. Baker, Thomas E. Boren and B. W. Chadwick. Funeral service conducted by the Rev. W. G. Haslein; Masonic graveside rites at Odd Fellows Cemetery. T. L. Anderson 1825 - 1913, Born in Alabama, Married Hulda Virginia Davis, He served the CSA in Hood's Brigade, Co I, Lane's Cavalry, After the war Anderson was a carpenter and a Justice of the Peace.

Anderson, William P. - Died 1877 (Book 1, p 28) No grave marker found in 2003. Per Probate File #681, W. P. Anderson was already deceased and the probate of his estate began in the Nov. 1869 term of Court.

Ardis, W. H. - Died Feb. 1892; he affiliated with the Carthage Lodge on Sep. 12, 1891 No grave marker found in 2003

Bellamy, J. R. - Died March 1877 James Rubin Bellamy Jan. 10, 1817TN - Jan. 6, 1877, Buried Rehobeth Cemetery, Born in TN, a Minister. Probate File #819 shows that Bellamy was already deceased when the probate of his estate was filed during the March 1877 term of Court.

Brewer, Henry - Died Nov. 11, 1904; Resolution Committee E. S. Hull, T. P. Hull, J. L. Chadwick and Jasper Collins; Born in Freeland, New Jersey on Oct. 7, 1835; Died at age 69 years, one month and four days; A Mason for 46 years Buried Carthage City Cemetery. Per 1900 Census Henry had been married for 42 years to his wife Elizabeth who was born ca 1835 in TN. Elizabeth had given birth to 11 children, but in 1900 only three of them were still living. Two of those children, Alice age 30 and Jacob age 24, were living in the household with their parents in 1900.

Brooks, E. H. - Died 1868 (Book 1, p 83) No grave marker found in 2003

Caulder, W. W. - (Thought dead, but suspended) No grave marker found in 2003; on the 1860 Census of Panola Co, he is shown as being born about 1822 in AL, he was a Methodist minister, lived next door to another Mason James M. Ramsey

Chadwick, Daniel, Sr. - Died June 17, 1912 - Resolution Committee W. P. Lawrence, S. S. Baker, J. H. Long and J. E. Phillips. Born in Edgefield District, South Carolina on April 29, 1836; Joined the Masonic Lodge in Russell County, SC when in his 20's; Moved to Carthage in 1869 and later affiliated with Carthage Lodge; Burial with Masonic Ceremonies at Macedonia Cemetery. Married Martha Bussey in AL, Lived in the Snap Community, Owned and operated a general merchandise store and a cotton gin, buried in Macedonia Cemetery

Chadwick, John L. - Died Nov. 2, 1912 in Carthage; Born May 6, 1860 in (Hattiesburg, MS) Copiah County, Mississippi; Came to Texas at age 10 with parents; married Nannie J. Ross on Nov. 15, 1883; two children Jennie Mae and R. H. ; Affiliated with the Carthage Lodge Oct. 21, 1893; Was a Master Mason, a member of the Royal Arch Knights Templar and the Shrine. Funeral service at the Methodist Church conducted by Pastor E. W. Potter, assisted by Elder V. R. Stapp - Pastor of the First Christian Church, the Rev. J. L. Fields - Pastor of Central Baptist Church and the Rev. Leland Malone - Missionary of the Rusk County Baptist Association. Burial with Masonic graveside ceremony at Carthage Cemetery. Committee on Resolution J. H. Long, W. P. Lawrence and S. S. Baker. Son of Daniel Chadwick, Sr. and Martha Bussey.

Cooper, W. H. - Died May 22, 1869 (Book 1, p 47) Born about 1823 in Ohio, was a medical doctor, married Catherine Hunter Rosser, was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, buried in his family cemetery (now obliterated) near the southwest corner of Old Macedonia Cemetery.

Dagnell, F. M. - Died April 1905; Resolution Committee S. S. Baker, J. H. Long and T. P. Hull F. M. Dagnell 1833 - 1905, Buried New Prospect Cemetery, Born July 1833 in SC, Came to TX about 1875, Married Fannie V. Johnson on Aug. 2, 1885, Served as Tax Assessor for Panola Co.

Daniel, Bostic - Died Sep. 1, 1900; Resolution Committee Jasper Colline, C. F. Goodenough and J. P. Matthews. Theopholis Bostic Daniel Aug. 4, 1836 in AL - Sep. 2, 1900, buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, His father was born in Scotland and his mother in AL. Married Nannie Fort on Dec. 12, 1883.

Darnall, S. B. (Samuel B.) - Died June 12, 1887; age 74; buried with Masonic honors; Resolution Committee T. E. Boren, J. M. Woolworth and J. A. Alsup; Affiliated in 1859. No grave marker found in 2003, but his son, daughter and daughter-in-law are buried at Carthage City Cemetery.

Dozier, S. B. (Stephen B.) - Died Jan. 4, 1870 (Book 1, p 11) Born about 1816 in VA, was a farmer and a house carpenter, Married Eveline Elliott on Apr. 3, 1850

Dulaney, Blakely Graves - Died Feb. 21, 1909 at San Angelo TX; Born in AL, entered the Carthage Lodge on July 29, 1901. On Jan 6, 1878, he married Sallie Wilkerson in Panola County. The 1900 Census shows that Dulaney, born Jul 1856, was District Court Clerk at that time. It shows that Sallie, born Mar 1857, had given birth to seven children and that all seven of them were still living. Six of those children were in the household with their parents, along with Sallie's mother Nancy Wilkerson who was born Aug 1816 in NC. Nancy had given birth to five children, but only Sallie was still living in 1900.

Dulaney, H. P. C. (Henry Preston Cook) - Died Nov. 1875; One half of his burial expenses ($21. 35) paid by the Carthage Lodge, the other half paid by the United Friends of Temperance League who met in the same building as the Masons. March 24, 1876 the paid W. A. Trabue $3. 65 for bacon delivered to Dulaney's widow; At the same meeting the Lodge donated $25. 00 to Mrs. Dulaney "to assist in defraying her expenses en route back to her home in Alabama". "Press" Dulany was born on Mar. 11, 1827 in Butler Co, AL, the son of Rev. Benjamin and Rebecca Hutchinson Dulany, Was reared in Wilcox Co, AL, At age 19 he joined the State Militia and on July 11, 1846 he was elected 1st Lt. in the 31st Reg., 7th Brig, 6th Division of the Alabama Militia; Dulany served in the Mexican War in Capt. Baldwin's Company, 1st Rgt, Alabama Volunteers; In 1850 Dulany was a school teacher at Grand Cane LA; There he married Sarah A. Fortson on Sep. 21, 1851; He immigrated to TX and in Sep. 1852 the District Court of Shelby Co granted him a permanent license to practice law in TX; From the late 1850's to 1861 he served as a Representative in the Texas State Legislature; Following the death of his first wife, he married Dulaney married Myra Turner on March 28, 28, 1855, but she died two years later; He resigned his legislative seat on April 4, 1861 and returned to AL to join the CSA, serving in Co. D, 3rd Rgt., AL Cavalry; Following the end of the Civil War, he remained in AL, marrying Matilda Rebecca Martin of Wilcox Co AL on Dec. 22, 1865; He practiced law and taught school for seven years in AL and western FL; On Jan. 11, 1873 he and his wife and three sons arrived in Carthage where he resumed his law practice; In 1874 he was stricken with paralysis and was disabled until his death on Oct. 27, 1875; He was of the Methodist faith, a member of the Bar Association, the Temperance League and a Royal Arch Mason. Ellis, W. M. (William M.) - Died April 1905; Resolution Committee S. S. Baker, J. H. Long and T. P. Hull; Received Blue Lodge and Royal Arch Degrees in 1864 William M. Ellis May 5, 1832 AL - April 6, 1905; Married Nancy Amanda Duke in 1860, Buried Walton Cemetery. The 1900 Census shows that William and Nancy had been married for 40 years, that Nancy had given birth to 10 children, but only seven of them were still living.

Gillaspie, N. W. - Died 1903; Resolution Committee Jasper Collins, W. L. Pate and J. H. Long; Affiliated in 1871; Served as Secretary 1879-1883 and as Guard in 1897 Noah W. Gillaspie Dec. 13, 1830 in VA - Oct. 15, 1903, buried Carthage City Cemetery; Apparently married Amanda C. F. in TN, then lived for a time in AR and LA before arriving in Panola County about 1867as the births of their seven children reflect them being born on those states. Amanda was born 1834, died 1888 and buried beside Noah. Following Amanda's death he 2nd married Mrs. Matilda Morris on Jan 15, 1893.

Gorum, S. W. - Died Mar. 13, 1871 (Book 1, p 103) Was born about 1841 in AL; On Jun. 8, 1866 he married Peggy Moore

Hammond, W. S. - Died (Book 1, p 70) No grave marker found in 2003; Born about 1823 in TN; Married Margaret Forsyth in Panola Co on Sep. 14, 1848; He died before 1870 as Margaret appears as a widow on the census for that year

Harley, Wade - Died (Book 1, p 100) Wade Harley 1842 - 1876, Son of Joshua D. & Mary Darnes Harley, Husband of Sarah J., Buried in Bethlehem Cemetery

Hickey, J. L. - Died Nov. 30, 1902; Born April 11, 1826 in Tallahoosie, Alabama; Served in the Civil War for four years; Became a Mason in 1855 at Logansport, LA; Affiliated with Carthage Lodge on Oct. 21, 1893; Resolution Committee J. P. Forsyth, S. S. Baker, J. H. Long Buried Carthage City Cemetery. His wife Martha F. was born Aug 1832 in NC. Per the 1900 Census they had been married for 49 years, with no children born of the marriage.

House, S. (Sihon) - Died 1863 (Book 1, p 21) Sihon House was born in 1801 in North Carolina. He moved to Georgia some time before 1825. On December 22, 1825, he married Nancy Tait, daughter of Robert L. Tait. Between 1828 and 1831 he was Clerk of the Inferior Court of Coweta and Heard counties in GA. He then came to TX, through AL and LA. In 1841 he received a land grant from the Republic of TX for 640 acres in Harrison Co., TX. This later became part of Panola County when it was formed. In July 1848, Sihon was one of two men authorized to do the surveying for the location of the town of Carthage, which was to be the county seat of Panola County. Sihon took the Oath of Allegiance for Judge of the Probate Court for Panola County on July 11, 1848. On Aug. 4, 1848, he gave a gift of land to the Macedonia Baptist Church. On Oct. 4, 1852 he gave land to the Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church for a church building and a camp ground. Sihon died the early part of 1863 and is believed to be buried in Old Macedonia Cemetery. Hull, Edwin Sealey - Died Feb. 19, 1909; Born Sep. 19, 1818 at Scotland Neck, North Carolina - Became a Mason in North Carolina; Received the three Blue Lodge degrees and the Royal Arch degree in 1863; Affiliated with Carthage Lodge on Oct. 19, 1867; Served as Treasurer from 1872-1883, also in 1898, and served on Council for several years; Was a Mason for 69 years. Buried in Carthage City Cemetery, Married Sarah Ann Young.

Hull, J. H. L. (John Henry Laurenston) - Died Sep. 13, 1906; Resolution Committee Jasper Collins, J. L. Chadwick and J. H. Long. Born May 5, 1843 in Scotland Neck, North Caroline; Moved to Woods Post Office in Panola County in April 1859; Received three Blue Lodge degrees and the Royal Arch degree in 1865; Married Ellen D. Hunt; Died at St. Paul's Sanitarium in Dallas TX; buried by Masonic brethren at Carthage City Cemetery on Sep. 14, 1906; Age 63. Served the CSA in Company F of the 10th Texas Cavalry.

Hull, T. P. (Thomas Phillip) - Died Sep. 22, 1911; Masons met body at the depot and accompanied it to the City Cemetery for burial; Born in Goshen, Lincoln Co, GA on Feb. 27, 1823; Moved to TX in 1859 and settled near Woods Post Office; Moved his family to Carthage in 1880; Joined the Masons before coming to Texas; Received three Blue Lodge degrees and the Royal Arch degree in 1863; Resolution Committee J. H. Long, John L. Chadwick and J. P. Forsyth. Served the CSA as a 1st Lt. in Hull's Company F of the 10th Texas Cavalry.

Johnson, H. L. - Died Sep. 20, 1901. No marked grave found in 2003

Jones, J. A. C. (John Adam Crain) - Died (Book __, p __); Received three Blue Lodge degrees and Royal Arch degree in 1863 Both J. A. C., Sr. and Jr. came to Panola Co about 1845. J. A. C. Jones, Sr. died in 185, so the above entry would be for his son. J. A. C., Jr. married Sarah Jane Long on Sep 2, 1858. About 1876 the family moved to the Garza Community in Denton Co. J. A. C., Jr. died Feb 3, 1904 in Denton Co and was buried in the Old Hall Cemetery.

Jourdan, A. F. (Augustus F.) - Died Apr. 30, 1864 (Book 1, p 81) Born about 1820 in GA, he was a very prosperous farmer who lived in the Longbranch area with his wife Elizabeth. On the 1860 Census they had four children with only the first one being born in GA. As the family was enumerated on the 1850 Census with a one year old child that was born in GA, this would place their arrival in TX around the end of 1849 or early 1850.

King, J. L. - Died Dec 1871 (Book 1, p 85) Mary C. "Mollie" Bryan married J. L. King in Panola County on April 18, 1859. The King family was prominent in the Woods Community. J. L. King was a medical doctor who resided in the Buena Vista Community of Shelby County (12 miles east of Center TX). J. L. is possibly buried in Woods Cemetery as his parents and brother are buried there.

Koonce, Daniel - Died April 1904; Resolution Committee W. P. Lawrence, J. A. Daniels and J. H. Long Daniel Koonce Nov. 12, 1839 - Mar. 12, 1904, Buried Six Mile Cemetery; Born in LA and both his parents born in AL. According to the 1900 Census, Daniel and his wife Mary J. had been married for 35 years. Mary J. had given birth to 10 children and all 10 were still living at that time, with the four youngest ones living in their household.

Lacy, B. B. (Benjamin Burton) - Died Jan. 29, 1876 (Book 1, p 3); Received three Blue Lodge degrees and the Royal Arch degree in 1870, Served as Guard in 1874 Born Apr. 10, 1827 in AL and died Jan. 29, 1876, Buried Carthage City Cemetery; The time of his coming to TX is unknown; He served in the 12th Legislature of the State of TX; He 1st married Pernecy Holland on Sep. 12, 1848 in Centennial; He 2nd married Pheriba Jane Rushing Hendricks.

Lampin, A. - Died Jan. 1891; Resolutions Committee J. M. Woolworth, H. Brewer and E. S. Hull; Lampin affiliated with the Carthage Lodge Jan. 12, 1889 Anthony J. Lampin 1825 in PA- 1891, buried Rock Hill Cemetery; His first child was born in Indiana in 1856 while his children born from 1859-1871 were born in Iowa; He and his family were in Panola Co by the time of the 1880 Census.

Langley, William L. (William Lafayette) (Book 1, p 36) W. L. Langley 1832 - 1869, Buried Langley Cemetery; He married Sarah Elizabeth Taylor in Forsythe Co., GA about 1854. Their first child was born in AL about 1855 and their second was born in TX in 1859. According to family stories, he and parents, William and Martha Langley, came to Panola Co. in the winter of 1858-1859.

Lawrence, J. M. (James Monroe) - Died Nov. 17, 1881; Affiliated with the Carthage Lodge 1868 No grave marker found in 2003; Born about 1819 in GA; in 1880 was District Clerk for Panola County. On the 1880 Census his two teen age sons were born born in AL and were school students. He also had an 11 month old daughter who was born in TX.

Mathews, T. D. - Died 1861 (Book 1, p 3) No marked grave found in 2003. Thomas D. Mathews was born about 1798 in NC. He was a prosperous farmer who lived east of Beckville. He and his wife Martha possibly married in AL as their son Thomas J. Matthews was born there about 1829. The Mathews family does not appear on the 1850 Census, but they possibly came right after that as the son, Thomas J., had a son, Willis, who was born in TX about 1850. Per Probate file # 600, the administration of his estate was on the docket for the Aug 1867 term of Court.

McCabe, George W. - Died 1860 (Book 1, p 23) No marked grave found 2003

McCartney, W. W. - Died Dec 1868 (Book 1, p 6) No marked grave found 2003. William W. McCartney, a physician who was born about 1822 in TN, who lived in the City of Carthage. On Mar 4, 1856 in Panola Co he married Julia B. White.

Moore, C. D. - Died Apr. 8, 1864 (Book 1, p 8) No marked grave found in 2003. Charles D. Moore appears on the 1860 Census with his wife, Catherine, and two children. He was born about 1827 in AL and was a prosperous farmer, although he lived in the City of Carthage.

Moore, D. B. - Died Sep. 8, 1893; "Lodge formed a procession and accompanied the corpse to the graveyard where D. B. Moore was buried with Masonic honors". David B. Moore March 1837 in GA - Sep. 8, 1893, buried Carthage City Cemetery. Per the 1880 Census, David was a farmer who was born about 1837 in GA. He and his wife, Mary J., had seven children on that census with the first three born in GA, the other four in TX. According to the ages and birthplaces of the children, David and Mary J. came to TX about 1869.

Morris, D. - Died Aug. 3, 1891; Received three Blue Lodge degrees and the Royal Arch degree in 1865, Served as Guard in 1867, 1868 and 1876 Dempsey Morris July 15, 1812 - Aug. 3, 1891, buried Carthage City Cemetery

Parker, John E. - Died 1868 (Book 1, p 16) No grave marker located in 2003, Not enumerated on the 1860 Census.

Payne, Thomas - Died Nov. 2, 1879; In a called meeting regarding the "burial of Thomas Payne who departed this life on the 2nd of Nov. 1879. The Lodge formed a procession and accompanied the corpse to the graveyard where Thomas Payne was buried with Masonic honors". No grave marker located in 2003, although by the text of this entry he would have been buried in the Carthage City Cemetery.

Perkins, Dr. Aaron R. - Died May 8, 1911 at Shreveport LA; Resolution Committee J. A. Daniels, J. L. Chadwick, E. W. Potter; Born Robertson County, TX on Dec. 6, 1859; Died at age 51 years, five months and two days; Joined Masonic Lodge at Center TX in 1889; then moved to Carthage; Became a Royal Arch, Knight Templer and Shriner (a week before his death); Funeral service at the Methodist Church with C. V. McLarty, J. L. Fields and E. W. Potter officiating. Buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery

Pitts, W. W. - Died July 19, 1882 (Book __, p 119) No marked grave found 2003, Born about 1809 in NC as were his parents, he came to TX from Russell Co., AL; He married Mary Denson in AL; Upon his arrival in TX he originally settled at Pine Hill in Rusk Co; In 1880 he was living in the household of his son-in-law Elias R. Fort in the Antioch Community; He was probably buried in Antioch Cemetery as was his daughter Fannie Pitts Fort and Martha Van Buren Pitts Wooten, and his son William Henry Pitts.

Ramsey, James M. - Died _____ (Book __, p 26) Born about 1823 in TN, Married Emily G. Knot on Aug. 3, 1848 in Panola Co, Died 1868-1870, Possibly buried in Carthage City Cemetery as one of his sons is buried there, Served a number of years as County Clerk.

Ramsey, O. F. - Died Nov. 30, 1900 O. Frank Ramsey was born April 5, 1829 in Tennessee, but both his parents were born in Ireland, buried in Woods Cemetery. He was a close friend of the Hull family, in fact he took his wagons to Shreveport and met the Hulls when they arrived in TX in April 1858. He married Cornelia Clarke, whose sister was married to Achillis Knight. They had two sons Gaston and Hull. Frank owned Sabine River arms in Panola County where he raised cotton. He also cut timber and floated the logs down the Sabine River to market.

Roquemore, H. P. (Hiram P.) - Died 1864 (Book 1, p 66) Born about 1826 in GA, In 1860 he was a prosperous farmer living in the Longbranch area; He was a Baptist; No marked grave found 2003, but possibly buried in Boynton Cemetery as a number of Roquemores were buried there and he lived with the Boyntons and the other Roquemores all around him. The Roquemore family came to Panola Co in 1849. On the 1860 Census it lists Hiram, born about 1826 GA; his wife Lobicy, born about 1832 GA, and seven children two of which were born in GA, the other five born in TX. He was a son of Peter Roquemore and Catherine Murphy

Roquemore, J. H. (James Henderson) - Died 1869 (Book 1, p 104) Born 1831 in GA, Died 1869; He married Matilda Boynton on Oct. 8, 1854; Buried in Boynton Cemetery. He was a prosperous farmer in the Longbranch area.

Roquemore, William B. - Died 1876; Received three Blue Lodge degrees and the Royal Arch degree in 1863 Born Dec. 28, 1808 in GA, Was the son of Peter Roquemore and Catherine Murphy: He was a prosperous farmer living near the other Roquemores in the Longbranch area, so he is possibly buried in Boynton Cemetery.

Rowe, James - Died Dec 1868 (Book 1, p 6) Born Mar. 11, 1875 in NC, Died Dec. 3, 1868; Buried in Old Center Cemetery, where he gave an acre of landing 1856 to start the cemetery; Came to TX in 1834; Married Mira Tippett on Aug. 18, 1835;; On Mar. 11, 1836 joined the Army of the Republic of TX; When Panola County was formed on March 30, 1846 the Legislature named Rowe as one of the six Commissioners who were charged with selecting a location for the county seat; He was a tanner by trade and quite prosperous

Rowlett, A. H. (Alfred H.) - Died Jan. 20, 1884: Resolutions Committee was N. W. Gillaspie, J. M. Woolworth and W. L. Walker. Resolution accepted and recorded on April 5, 1884 Born about 1810 in VA; From 1870 - 1875 Rowlett served for a time as a Deputy Sheriff, appointed by the military authorities; In 1880 he was the Tax Collector for Panola Co and lived in the city of Carthage. ; No grave marker located in 2003

Scott, William - Died 1869 No grave marker found 2003, Per the 1860 Census he was born about 1824 in AL. On April 24, 1853 he married Catherine Upton in Panola Co TX. He was a farmer and lived in the Old Center area near the Kyle, Pou, Hooker and Moorman families. Quite possibly buried in Old Center Cemetery.

Simmons, Drew - Died June 8, 1881; buried with Masonic honors. The Lodge paid Alsup & Thompson $37. 07 for Simmons burial expenses. Drew Simmons Oct. 14, 1833 VA - June 8, 1881, buried Carthage City Cemetery. Per the 1880 Census Simmons was a house carpenter living in the City of Carthage. At that time he and his wife Mollie J. had four children living at home.

Smith, Mitchell - Died Jan. 12, 1872 No grave marker found 2003. Not listed on the 1870 Census.

Solomon, James M. - Died July 30, 1864 Born about 1821 in TN, Left AL and came to TX about 1851; Was a very prosperous farmer in the Woods Community; No marked grave found 2003, but as subsequent generations have buried in Woods Cemetery, it is possible that he is buried there also.

Walton, William - Died 1873; Received three Blue Lodge degrees and Royal Arch degrees in 1866 Born about 1826 in MS; Was a prosperous gunsmith; Lived in the area of Old Macedonia Cemetery; no grave marker in 2003, but is quite possible that he was buried in the Old Walton Cemetery as that little family cemetery was located on his property.

Watson, William H. - Died 1867 Born about 1820 in VA; Was an extremely prosperous merchant; Lived in the Beckville area, Came to TX from TN about 1858; During the Reconstruction period following the end of the Civil War there were no meetings of the Commissioners Court in Panola County and no mention of a sheriff from Jan. to July of 1869. On July 27, 1869 the military authorities appointed William as Sheriff and W. P. Anderson Vice Sheriff. In Sept. 1869 Thomas F. Hull was appointed Sheriff and William Vice Sheriff under the Military General. In Oct. 1869 W. P. Anderson was appointed Sheriff. No marked grave 2003, but possibly buried in the Watson Cemetery in the Harris Chapel Community

Wilson, Joseph J. - Died July 17, 1874; Received the three Blue Lodge degrees and Royal Arch degrees in 1863 Born about 1830 in SC, Came to TX between 1855 and 1860; Lived in the area of the Youngblood Community; No marked grave 2003

Woolworth, J. M. - Died Aug. 11, 1905; Resolution Committee L. L. McChristian, Jasper Skinner and W. P. Lawrence; Born in Claiborne, Alabama on July 3, 1843; Came to Texas 1848, Became a Mason at Elysian Fields Joppa Lodge #65 in 1869; Lived many years in Carthage. Buried in Carthage City Cemetery On the 1880 Census J. M. is listed as being a farmer and was living east of the Sabine River near the Midyett Community. On the 1900 Census he was a furniture dealer living in the City of Carthage. According to the 1900 Census J. M. and wife, Mary J., had been married for 32 years and had nine children born to the marriage, all of whom were still living at that time. The older children were all born in LA. On the 1900 Census all four of his daughters still living at home were employed as school teachers. The only son still in their residence was employed as a salesman of general merchandise. Although J. M. and his mother were both born in AL, his father was born in NY.
