Abstract Notes of the Packet
By Marylee W. KnightThe full inventory and exhibits of this probate packet are also recorded in Probate Book E, pages 421-426.
In an exhibit document filed on December 29, 1861, Freeman noted, "There is belonging to said estate two hundred and fifth acres of land in two tracts, to fifty of which there is no deed of conveyance to Heath, the title being in J.Z. Tamplin".
Exhibit documents filed on January 5, 1863 contained a number of interesting items ranging from the expensive to the ordinary. Same examples are
200 acres of land at $7.00 per acre (homestead of dec'd) = $1,400
50 acres of land at $5.00 per acre = $250
1 Negro man Squire age about 20 = $1,000
1 Well bucket and rope = $1.25
1 Stack fodder = $8.00
Freeman noted that the cash on hand belonging to the estate was $483.52. The estate also held notes that totaled $1,477.42 where Heath had loaned money to other people.
This same exhibit also stated that "the household furniture is set apart for the use of the minors". (There is no mention of Heath's wife in these probate proceedings, so it might be assumed that she was also deceased.)
In the final accounting of the estate that was filed on March 1, 1864, the most unusual entries were these
Inventory of Confederate notes = $523.12
Taxes paid for 1863 S & C = $12.19
Confederate taxes paid for 1863 = $57.00
