located in the northwest quadrant of Red River County, Texas.
GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33 Deg 36.754N, 95 Deg 04.300W.
It is located on the extreme west edge of Clarksville just east
of the bypass on the north side of Hwy 82 and is a black cemetery.
The oldest marked burial is that of Jeff Toton who died on 30
May 1889. The oldest record of this cemetery is a deed made on
19 Apr 1890 and filed for record on 13 Feb 1895, Book 28 pages
188 and 189, conveying 2 acres north of the old Fair Grounds
to be used as a cemetery for the 'collord dead' for a sum of
$50. Property sold by David Rainey and sold Perry Paul Reeves
and Price Latimer, trustees for the 'collord cemetery'. There
is also a deed by D. H. Taylor on 15 Jul 1901 and filed for record
on 29 May 1969 in Book CH Vol 261 Page 270 for 1 acre of the
J. Ritchey survey to the Fairground Cemetery. Additional lands
were deeded to the trustees by Mary Taylor in 1991. It was surveyed
by Lawrence and Sue Dale on 31 Jan 1997 and there was also an
article in The Paris News dated 30 Jun 1998 concerning this burial
ground. As a quality check this cemetery was again surveyed by
Lawrence and Sue Dale on 28 Nov 1999. we again visited this site
on 9 Jan 2004 and recorded the GPS Coordinates. We also did a
re-walk of the cemetery adding new burials and noting marker
changes."
