Old Shamrock Cemetery,"28
Dec 1859,This cemetery is located in the northwest quadrant of
Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33 Deg
38.099N, 95 Deg 08.519W. Take Hwy 82 west from Clarksville to
the intersection with FM 2573 going to Bagwell. Take FM 2573
northeast or right for a mile and the turn to the cemetery is
on the right, the cemetery being about 2/10 mile off the road.
A deed dated 21 Jul 1860 and filed for record on 21 Jul 1860
in Book CH Vol M Page 574 for 2 acres of the Benjamin Gooch survey
for the church school and burying ground from I. B. H. Epperson
to the Old Shamrock Cemetery. A deed dated 17 Dec 1857 and filed
for record on 16 May 1867 in Book CH Vol O Page 534 'sold to
B. W. Epperson 861.5 acres less 2 tracts for cemetery' from David
C. Russell to Old Shamrock Cemetery. filed on 16 May 1867 and
recorded in Book CH O page 530. Sam Buzbee gave the Old Shamrock
Society a deed for a parcel of land adjoining the cemetery which
will provide between 250 and 300 additional grave sites, this
taken from CLARKSVILLE TIMES 12 Sep 1968. The oldest marked burial
is that of Robert Baker who died 28 Dec 1859. This cemetery was
surveyed by Lawrence and Sue Dale on 20 and 21 March 1997., On
a day drizzling rain on 16 Sep 2001, there was a brief ceremony
to dedicate the new marker placed by the Texas Historical Commission.
We visited here again on 21 Jan 2003 and took the GPS Coordinates.
We also did a re walk of the cemetery on 18 Feb 2004 adding new
burials and noting marker changes."
