Pigpen Ranch Cemetery
30 May 1857,"This cemetery is located in the northeast quadrant
of Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33
Deg 37.913N, 94 Deg 56.658W, El 453 ft. Reference to this cemetery
was found in RED RIVER RECOLLECTIONS page 32 and is the early
burying ground for the English and other families beginning in
1857. The oldest marked burial is that of Effie McFerron who
died on 30 May 1857. The cemetery is on the Pigpen Ranch and
is 7 miles east of Clarksville on FM 114 and is 2/10 mile west
of the intersection with FM 1158 on Sivley Hill. The ranch gate
has the Pigpen brand (Tic Tac Toe symbol) and is on the north
side of the road. The cemetery is past the house and shop and
in the pasture about a city block further north. Contact Imogene
Wooley in Clarksville prior to entering their land. There was
a smallpox epidemic in 1874 and 1875 and this accounts for a
number of the burials herein. This cemetery was surveyed by Lawrence
and Sue Dale on 29 Oct 1999. Later observations may name this
burying ground as the English Plantation Cemetery. We visited
the site again on 15 Jan 2004 and took the GPS readings. We also
photographed all the markers."
