Cemetery
Rowland Cemetery, 1843,"This
cemetery is located in the northeast quadrant of Red River County,
Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33 Deg 44.324N, 94 Deg 52.833W.
From FM 1159 take CR 3240 east for 1.6 miles to the old Bryarly
Community then proceeding east on CR 3240 for another two miles,
passing two cattleguards and finally arriving at a locked pasture
gate. Past the gate for 2/10 miles turn south onto CR 3247 for
2/10 mile reaching another locked gate. After the gate proceed
south for about 3/10 miles and just past a small pool on the
right there is a pasture lane to the right. Within 100 yards
you will see two gaps in the fence; take the south gap and the
cemetery is another 200 yards up a small hill in a southwesterly
direction. The earliest marked burial is that of Robert Hamilton,
signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, who died in
1843. This cemetery was surveyed by Lawrence and Sue Dale on
22 Feb 2000. Joining us was Mary Hausler and her son, Doug. We
visited the site again on 8 Dec 2003 and took the GPS readings."
