Whitemans Chapel Cemetery,
18 Mar 1900,"This cemetery is located in the northeast quadrant
of Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33
Deg 38.350N, 95 Deg 01.038W. This cemetery can be reached from
Clarksville by going about 2.5 miles north on FM 1159. Then take
FM 1700 2/10 mile to the first road, CR 3200, to the right, go
2/10 mile and the cemetery is on the right. Greenwood Cemetery
was donated to the community by Honorable R. R. Gains of Austin,
Texas and deeded to the original trustees W. T. Nance, R. N.
Johnson, R. D. Hutchinson, D. C. Whiteman and T. J. Campbell
on 31 March 1898. (see deed records Book CH Vol 33 Page 521 filed
on 16 Apr 1898 giving 2 acres for the cemetery and 3 acres for
the school). It was reorganized in 1962 as Whitemans Chapel with
Chester Whiteman, President; and George Whiteman, Trustee and
General Superintendant for life. There is an affadavit #58481
filed for record on 7 Mar 1983 stating that Liberty Hill and
Greenwood Cemetery are changed to Whitemans Chapel. The oldest
marked grave was that of Levi D. Whiteman who was born and died
on 18 March 1900. This cemetery was surveyed by Lawrence and
Sue Dale on 22 Jan 1999. We were on the site on 8 May 2003 and
took the GPS Coordinates. We also did a re walk of the cemetery
adding new burials and noting marker changes on 7 Dec 2003."
