GENEALOGY OF SOME OF THE
PROMINENT FAMILIES OF
RED RIVER COUNTY

Of all the families that came to this section in pioneer days, no other one has left so many living descendants of today as the Latimer family. A large part of the information concerning the Latimer family was recorded by Dr. Pat B. Clark and the late John L. Jamison, the grandson of James Latimer.

THE LATIMERS OF EAST TEXAS

James Latimer was born in New London, Connecticut, in 1785. While yet a young man he moved to Tennessee and while there he married Miss Jane Hamilton, a sister of Col. Bob Hamilton, who was a pioneer settler of Red River County and a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1836 at old Washington. In 1833 the Latimer family, possessed of the pioneer spirit, came out hunting a better country and one of the sons of James Latimer, Albert Latimer, came out to this section on a prospecting tour.
