THE HUMPHREYS AND HARRISONS [Howisons]

Cynthia, William and John R. Humphreys [and a half sister, Rebecca (p.115)] were the children of John Humphreys and his wife, who came to the Jonesboro settlement on Red River in the early spring of 1818 from the White River in Arkansas. Their mother was the sister of Joseph Reed and her first name was Betsy or Cynthia. Reed had married a sister of John Humphreys, and I have not been able to find out which of the names Betsy or Cynthia belonged to John's wife and which to Joseph's. But Cynthia and Elizabeth were names found frequently among the Reed and Humphreys descendants.

Joseph Reed had a sister, or half sister, [Permelia Reed] who was the wife of Garland Geer [See also p.142, p.222], also an early-day settler in this county.

John Humphreys had a half brother, George C. Humphreys, whose will was filed for probate in this county in 1854, and he has numerous descendants in this and Lamar Counties.

William Humphries was born in Madison County, Tenn., on Jan. 17, 1805, and came to Jonesboro in 1818. Do not know when he left there but in 1826, Aug. 23rd, he married Mary McGill, of Russellville, Franklin County,
