Congressman John W. Crawford of this district. For a number of years he was engaged in the performance of his duties as justice of the peace at the courthouse in Clarksville. During the campaign of 1896 Pat B. Clark, Jr., offered, and secured its adoption by the Democratic county organization, a resolution calling for the nomination of candidates by direct vote of the people. In 1892 Pat B. Clark, Jr., (subject of this sketch) secured the adoption through the Democratic county convention of a far-reaching resolution which was adopted verbatim et literatim in the State Democratic convention at Galveston. This resolution called for a law to invest a large amount of money that had accumulated from leases from public school lands of the State and counted as a part of the permanent school fund of the State, this money to be invested in safe securities, and making the interest arising therefrom available for school purposes. He is a leader in the Democratic party, has served on the County Executive Committee, is an elder in the Presbyterian Church and is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Woodmen of the World. On November 22, 1897, Mr. Clark married Miss Emma West of Red River County, daughter of John C. and Emma (Burkes) West. She is an active member of the Presbyterian Church.
