BECTON

 

Mrs. Daisy Becton

HEMPHILL, Texas. Dec. 29 – JMrs.(sp) Daisy Becton, 57, died at 11:30 p. m. Saturday at her home in Hemphill.
She was born in Sabine county in 1883 and was married to J. L. Becton December 3, 1905.
Surviving are her husband; one son, E. H. of Wharton; three daughters, Mrs. Fay Roark of Cleveland, Mrs. Reba Sheppard of Miami, Fla., and Miss Beatrice Becton of Wharton.
Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Stringer funeral home of Hemphill. Burial will be in the Rosevine cemetery at Rosevine at 2 p. m. Monday, the Rev. Mr. Tinsley officiating.

Newspaper clipping from Esta Lynn Currie Parker Huff scrapbook. Unknown newspaper. Daisy Mae FULLEN was born 1883 and died 28 Dec 1940. She was the daughter of John W. FULLEN & Jane C. ALLEN. She married James Levi Becton in Sabine Co., TX.

 

BOYD

 

Funeral Held For B. I. Boyd

Funeral services for Bradford Imboden Boyd, 74, of Hemphill were held at 10 a.m. Monday September 21 in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill.
The Rev. Don Copeland, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, Milam, officiated. Burial was in the Gravellhill Cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews and grandsons.
Boyd died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday September 19, at St. Mary’s Hospital Port Arthur. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Milam and was a deacon of that church 25 years.
Survivors are one son, Dalton I. Boyd of Groves; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Conn of Hemphill and Mrs. Florence McLemore of Hemphill; and two grandchildren.

BRIGHT

 

From an unidentified newspaper clipping "Death Roll, Mrs. Nettie Bright, Hemphill, Dec 5 (spl) - Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Parker were called to Nacogdoches for the funeral of Mrs. Parker's aunt, Mrs. Nettie Bright, 87.Funeral services were held in Cason and Monk Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Neal Cannon, district superintendent Methodist Conference, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Mr. Chapman, pastor of First Methodist Church, Nacogdoches. Burial was in a Nacogdoches cemetery. Mrs. Bright was a native of Hemphill and member of a prominent pioneer family. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Sue Jameson and Mrs. Verde Arnold of Houston, and Mrs. Hattie Smith and Mrs. Lois Hale of Nacogdoches; two sons, Sid Bright of Natchitoches, La. and Charles Rutledge, Beaumont; one brother, George Williams of Alton; and one sister, Mrs. John Bright of Pasadena and numerous nieces and nephews."

Nettie WILLIAMS was the daughter of William Archer Williams & Susan Culver Bickley. She was born Abt 1875 and died 1962.

 

BROWN

 

Last Rites For Maj. John Brown Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Major John B. Bown (sp) 39, were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Hemphill, with the Rev. Clarence Howell, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the City Cemetery with Starr Funeral Home in charge. Military graveside services were conducted by representatives of the Barksdale Air Force Base. Major Brown was killed Tuesday of last week when a KC-135 Strato-Jet tanker crashed and burned at Loring Air Foce (sp) Base, Maine. He was navigator on the plane. Only two of the seven occupants survived. Major Brown had served in the Air Force the past 17 years, seeing action in World War II. Prior to going to Loing (sp) last January, he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport for six years. He was married to the former Earline Polke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl N. Polke of Hemphill. The body was brought overland to Hemphill by train from Carbou, Maine, leaving there Friday of last week. Services were held at Loring Air Force Chapel there before departure. His wife aand three year old son, John Earl, and some friends accompanied the body. Other survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Brown of San Benito, Texas.Pallbearers were officers from Barksdale, friends of Major Brown.
