FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. ANNA MARY DENT

Mrs. Anna Mary Dent was born at Hemphill, Sabine County, February 1st,1869 and died at her home in Hemphill June 27,1949 at 7:30 p.m. She was 80 years 4 months and 27 days old She was the daughter of Thomas Barden Watson and Mary E. Watson, old-time residents of Hemphill. She united with the Methodist church when she was a young girl and had been a member since that time. She was married to John T. Dent of Milam March 3,1898 and moved to Milam where she resided for a number of years. She taught in the schools of Sabine County before her marriage. She was assistant teacher in the Hemphill school several terms. Her husband preceded her in death over 32 years ago. She was the mother of three children, Mrs. D. A. Sibley of San Augustine, Ray Dent and Miss Mary Dent of Hemphill all of whom survive. She is also survived by one grand-daughter, Miss Dorris Ann Sibley of San Augustine, 5 step-children, Rev. I. O. Dent, J. T. Dent, Mrs. Ettie Finley and Mrs. Annie Williams of Henderson and R. H. Dent of Hemphill. A number of step-grandchildren and step great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Davidson of Pasadena and Miss Evie Watson of Nacogdoches, one brother, Dr. C. A. Watson of Ballenger. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Milam Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Rev. Alverson Fanks pastor of McMahans Chapel Methodist church and Rev. Clarence Howell pastor of the Baptist church at Hemphill conducted the services. Interment was in the cemetery at Milam. Pallbearers were: L. E. Busby, Ramsey Smith, Lee Robbins, Brad Carter, Oscar Pate and V. B. Elliott.Out of town relatives here for the funeral were: Rev. and Mrs. I. O. Dent., J. T. Dent and Mrs. Ettie Finley of Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Dent and daughter, Mrds. John Rahar and Children. Mr and Mrs I. O. Dent and Miss Myrta Watson of Beaumont, Mr and Mrs Wilson Dent and Miss Laverne Halbert of Dallas. IN MEMORIAM I. FRANK DENT

I. Frank Dent was born October 13,1906, Hemphill, Texas and departed this life February 3,1984, in Fairfield, Texas. Dent was received into full connection in the Texas Conference in 1933. He served faithfully those churches appointed to his charge during his ministry. Retiring in 1967 he began his term of 13 years service with Goodwill Industries, Houston, ending in 1973. After serving two churches through 1976 he retired to Fairfield. Officiating at the services were Dr. William Lufburrow, Dr. N.C. Nielson and Dr. Biill Gandin. Internment was at the Fairfield Cemetary. He is survived by his wife, Mary Grace of Fairfield, and son, Frank Lloyd of New York.

Mrs. I. O Dent Dies Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. I. O. Dent, 84, of Henderson, were held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Bethel Methodist Church, Henderson. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Dent died Friday in a Henderson hospital where she had been a patient for only a few hours. She was the wife of the Rev. I. O. Dent, a retired Methodist minister of the Texas Conference, a native of Sabine County and a former postmaster here. Mrs. Dent was a native of Tennessee. Besides her husband, she is survived by four step-sons, the Rev. Frank Dent and De Witt Dent of Houston, Dr. Charles Dent of Austin, and John Dent of Henderson; two step-daughters, Mrs. Katherine Spear of Henderson and Mrs. Pearl Davis of Dallas; and a number of nieces and nephews. Attending the funeral from here were Mary and Ray Dent, who are sister and brother of the Rev. I. O. Dent. They were accompanied to Henderson by their sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Sibley of San Augustine.

JOHN B. DENT DIES OF ILLNESS

Beaumont Banker's Services Will Be Today At 4Funeral services for John B. Dent, 62, of 1948 Central, vice president of the First Security National Bank, will be at 4 p.m. today in the funeral chapel of Broussard's Mortuary. The Rev. Donald Lewis, pastor Woodland Baptist Church of which Dent was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert B. Finley, J.A. Landry, Rex Taylor, Elmer Engman, Ralph Grantham and Guinn Busbee. Otis Fullen Otis E. Fullen and all officers, directors and employees of the First Security National Bank have been designated as honorary pallbearers. Dent, who moved to Beaumont in 1929 Tex., died at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday in his home after a long illness. When he came to Beaumont, Dent began as a runner for the Security State Bank and progressed through the years to the position of vice president. He retained this position when the bank consolidated with the First National Bank in 1961.CCMemberHe was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the YMBL and a past treasurer of the Beaumont chapter of the National Office Management Association. He was a charter member of the Association for Bank Audit, Control and Operation. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ollie McDaniel Dent; two daughters, Mrs. George A. Hart Jr. of Dallas and Mrs. Philip Kojak of Beaumont; two sons Gerald Dent of Houston and John B. Dent Jr. of Huntsville and two brothers, Wilson E. Dent of Dallas and James E. Dent of Beaumont. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Willie Halbert of Milam, and Mrs. Fanada Rahar of Nederland and six grandchildren.

John Booker Dent, Sr. was the son of Wilson Eugene DENT and Willie T. BOOKER. He was born 19 Nov 1905 in Milam, Sabine Co., TX and died 10 Jan 1968 in Beaumont, Jefferson Co., TX. He married Ollie Sarah McDaniel.

DENT-It becomes our sad duty to chronicle the sudden and unexpected death of our beloved friend and brother, John T. Dent, at his home, Milam, Texas, October 27,1916. He was born in Wilkes County, Georgia, September 24,1847. As a mere boy he served with distinction in the Confederate Army, came to Sabine County, Texas, in 1870, lived in Sabine County the remainder of his life. Uncle John, as he was affectionately called, joined the M.E. Church, South, when young and ever lived a consistent Christian life to the end. He was a man of strong character and conviction and, like Abraham, he commanded his children and household after him. They are all Christians and members of the M.E. Church, South. He has been an officer in the Church for a number of years. I do not think I ever knew a more consecrated Christian or loyal member of the Church than Uncle John. His pastor always knew that in him he had a friend in whom he could confide anything about the Church. He knew the doctrine and polity of his Church. He loved the Church and the preacher. It was an inspiration for the preacher to associate with him. The pastor, who, tired, discouraged and almost ready to give up, spent a night with Uncle John would go away the next morning ready to fight the battles again. He was true to his country, to his preacher, to his family, to his Church and to his God. He leaves a widow and nine children, five boys and four girls-Eugene, Methodist exhorter, Milam, Texas; Rev. I.O.Dent, pastor of M.E. Church, South, Linden, Texas; June Dent, of Henderson, Texas; Harry Dent, of Fairdale, Texas; Mrs. Ettie Finley, Sandia, Texas, and Mrs. Anna Williams, Milam, Texas, whose mother God called home a number of years ago. Also Misses Louella and Mary Dent and Ray, with their mother. Bereaved wife, children, loved ones and friends, we all know where to find Uncle John. JUNE DENT FUNERAL HELD

Funeral services were held for J. T. (June) Dent, age 84, of Henderson, at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Henderson, on May 14, with interment in Bethel Cemetery. Services were conducted by Dr. Joe Z. Tower of Tyler and Rev. Harold Fagan of Houston. Mr. Dent passed away at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Longview after a long illness. He was at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. Raymond Walker, where he had lived for three years. Besides the daughter, he is survived by a son, Rev. George Dent of Houston; three brothers, Rev. I. O. Dent of Henderson; R. H. Dent and C. R. Dent, both of Hemphill; two sisters, Mrs. D. A. Sibley of San Augustine and Miss Mary Dent of Hemphill, and three grandchildren. A native of Sabine County, Mr. Dent had made his home in Henderson for 50 years.

SERVICES FOR MARY DENT

Funeral services for Mary Lizzie Dent, 76, of Hemphill were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Starr Funeral Home with burial in Milam Cemetery. Miss Dent died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday at San Augustine Memorial Hospital. She was a retired postal clerk in Hemphill. Survivors include a brother, Ray Dent of Hemphill, a sister, Lou Ella Sibley of San Augustine; and a number of nieces and nephews.

R. H. DENT DIES, SERVICES HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services for Robert Harrison Dent, prominent Hemphill churchman and lawyer, were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the First Methodist Church at Jeanerette, La. with the pastor, the Rev. Reeves officiating. Evangeline Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with burial in Jeanerette Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews were pallbearers. Mr. Dent, 85, died at 3:15 P. M. Thursday, Dec 3, in New Iberia Hospital where he had been a patient for the last three weeks. He had been living in Jeanerette since June. A native of Sabine County, Mr. Dent was born Feb. 15, 1885 at Milam, the son of pioneer county residents, Amelia A. Pace and John T. Dent. He served two terms as Sabine County judge, served several terms as County Attorney, from which office he retired in 1968. A member of First Judicial Bar Association, he served several terms as Sabine County vice president of that legal organization. Judge Dent practiced law in Hemphill for approximately 30 years. A longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Hemphill, Mr. Dent served his church on the Official Board and as Sunday School superintendent. Before going into the practice of law, he taught in the schools of Sabine County a number of years. Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. George Smith of Jeanerette; one son, I. O. Dent of Beaumont; five grand-children and four great grand-children; two sisters, Mrs. D. A. Sibley of San Augustine and Miss Mary Dent of Hemphill; and one brother, Ray Dent of Hemphill. Attending the funeral services from this area were Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Sibley and Mrs. El Ray Baggett of San Augustine and Miss Mary Dent of Hemphill.

FINAL RITES FOR MRS. R. H. DENT HELD JANUARY 6

Mrs. R. H. Dent, 81, passed away Jan. 4, 1972, at 7:00 p.m. in the nursing home at New Iberia, La., after a lingering illness. Funeral services and interment were at Jeanerette, La., Thursday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. Under the direction of Evangeline Funeral Home. She was a native and life-time resident of Hemphill, until June 1970 when she moved to Jeanerette. She was Willie B. McGown before her marriage. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hemphill, and as long as her health permitted was a member of the choir and W.S.C.S. She also served as communion steward a number of years. She is survived by one son, I.O. Dent of Beaumont; one daughter, Mrs. George Smith Jr., of Jeanerette; three brothers, Rev. J.P. McGown of Beaumont, Rev. F. L. McGown of West, and Curtis McGown of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. G. F. Jordan of Houston and Mrs. Syble Kunz of Longview, five grand children and four great-grand children.

MRS. WILLIE DENT OF MILAM DIES

Mrs. Willie Booker Dent, 86, of Milam, died at her home early Sunday morning. She was found dead in her home at approximately 7:30 a.m. by her companion, Mrs. Annie Hardy. She was a native and life long resident of Sabine County. Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Milam Methodist Church with the Rev. W. A. Holt, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. S. A. Weimer. Pallbearers were Grandsons Jack Rahar, Terry Rahar, Gerald Dent, Johnny O. Dalby, Tommy Morvant, and George A. Hart, Jr. Survivors are three sons, J. B. Dent and J. E. Dent of Beaumont, and W. E. Dent of Dallas; two daughters, Mrs. Dessie Halbert of Milam, and Mrs. Fanda Rahar of Nederland; 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Burial was in Fox Hill Cemetery near Milam under direction of Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill.

W. E. DENT

W.E. Dent, of Milam, died suddenly at his home at 4:40 Saturday afternoon. He had been in bad health for a number of years and for the past few weeks confined to his bed, but the end was unexpected. He would have been 64 October 12.Funeral services were held at three o'clock Sunday afternoon and burial made at Fox Hill cemetery with Bro. Edwards officiating, assisted by Rev. C.A. Tower and Rev. E.L. Edgar. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters. The children are J.B. Dent and Mrs. John Rahar of Beaumont; Mrs. W. T. Halbert, and Wilson and Elrod Dent, of Milam. Other immediate relatives surviving are his brothers and sisters, Rev. I.O. Dent, of Colfax, N.M.; J. T. Dent and Mrs. Ettie Finley, of Henderson; Mrs. Annie Williams, Milam; R. H. Dent, of Hemphill, also his stepmother, Mrs. Annie Dent; two half sisters, Mrs. D. A. Sibley and Mary Dent and a half-brother, Ray Dent, all of Hemphill. He had been a member of the Methodist church since early life, had been active in its work and was a licensed exhorter. All members of the immediate family were present for the funeral except Mrs. John Rahar, of Beaumont, who was unable to come.

Funeral services for Doris Evelyn Graig (sp) DeRocha, 54, of Kenner, La., was held at 1 p.m. April 11 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Kenner.  She died April 8 at her home after an illness.  A native of Hemphill, she had lived in the New Orleans area for 33 years. She was the daughter of the late William E. and Arbor Lee Graig (sp) of Hemphill.  Survivors include her husband, Ronald DeRocha of Kenner, La.; one daughter, Rhonda McDonald of New Orleans; four sons, Ronald DeRocha Jr., Gary DeRocha, Kenneth DeRocha and Bryan DeRocha, all of New Orleans; two brothers, J. W. Craig of Jasper and Lee Edward Craig of Brookeland; five sisters, Pauline Nobles of Lake Charles, Lois McAlister of Many, La., Mary Moore and Betty Eger, both of Lake Charles, and Joyce Cannon of Hemphill; and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Donahoe Held Thursday

Mrs. Sarah Donahoe, 83, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Clewis of Hemphill.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home in Lufkin and interment will be in Gann Cemetery. Time for the services had not been decided as the Reporter and Star went to press.
Mrs. Donahoe was born March 2, 1878 in Polke County, but had lived with her daughter in Hemphill for the past six years. She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include five sons W. F Donahoe and S. C. Donahoe, both of Lufkin; A. L. Donahoe and C. M. Donahoe, both of Houston; and Ben Donahoe of Diboll; one other daughter besides Mrs. Clewis, Mrs. H. E. Deal of Houston; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
