Luke Waldrop of Bronson Dies Tuesday

Lucius P. “Luke” Waldrop, 50, of Bronson died in a Jasper hospital at 1:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon after a month’s illness.  He operated the Sabine chick hatchery of Bronson.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ardath Waldrop of Bronson; five sisters, Mrs. G. G. Buckley of Bronson, Mrs. A. W. Chapman of Pineland, Mrs. J. B. Curry of Orange, Mrs. Ollie Grimes of Orange and J. A. Barrett of Henderson, and a brother, H. J. Waldrop of Bon Wier.  Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the Bronson Baptist Church with Rev. R. E. Barclay of the Pineland Baptist Church officiating, assisted by Rev. Mr. Jimmerson of the Bronson Baptist Church. Burial was in the Hemphill cemetery with Starr funeral home of Hemphill in charge.

WELCH

Funeral Services For W. A. Welch Held Tuesday

Wilsh A. Welch, 49, of Hemphill died a 1 a.m. Monday in the Hemphill Clinic.
He had been unconscious the past six months after receiving an injury to his head while working as a log cutter.  Mr. Welch was a member of the Church of Christ. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ with W. C. Dean of Nacogdoches officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Clarence Howell, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hemphill. Burial was in the Centerview Cemetery in Bronson, under the direction of the Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Violet Welch of Hemphill; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Welch of Bronson; one step-granddaughter, Shirley Clark of Hemphill; three brothers, Lee Welch, Calvin Welch and Arsel Welch all of Orange; two sisters, Mrs. Kelly McBride and Mrs. Velma White, both of Bronson.

Funeral For Martha White Held Wednesday

BRONSON (Sp)—Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Mae White, 90, of Bronson were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Starr Funeral Home chapel in Hemphill with Rev. Noel Hammock and Rev. Terry Pate officiating. Burial was in the Bronson Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Virgil Martindale, Winston Jones, Corbitt Jones, Elwin Bickley, Terry Johnson, and Buell Ray Pate.  Mrs. White died at 10 p.m. Monday in the Vidor Nursing Center. She was a native of Sabine County and was a member of the Bronson Methodist Church.  Surviving are one granddaughter, Mrs. Hershel Lindsey, Jr. of Beaumont and six great-grandchildren.

C. T. Whittlesey Dies in Beaumont; Rites Held Friday

Cannon Travis Whittlesey, 65, of Hemphill died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his son W. T. Whittlesey of Beaumont after a long illness.  Mr. Whittlesey was a retired farmer and a resident of Sabine County.  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church in Hemphill with the Rev. Clarence Howell officiating. Burial was in the Hemphill cemetery under the direction of the Starr Funeral Home.  Survivors include two sons, W. T. Whittlesey of Beaumont, and L. E. Whittlesey of Bernington, Wash.; one daughter, Mrs. Preston Barlow of Diboll; five brothers, Jack and Alvin Whittlesey of Hemphill, Ed Whittlesey of Natchitoches, La., Hardy Whittlesey of Flint, Mich, and Henry Whittlesey of Port Arthur; three sisters, Mrs. Roy Payne and Mrs. Clyde Fuller, both of Hemphill and Mrs. A. A. Barr and two greatgrandchildren.  Pallbearers were nephews.  The body remained at the Starr Funeral Home until the time of services.

Mrs. Williams Dies; Services Held Saturday

Funeral service for Mrs. Shellie Williams, 65, were held Saturday, June 21 at 4 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Garrison, with the pastor, the Rev. Ramsey officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lewis Pratt and the Rev. Cleaver, pastor of Garrison Methodist Church. Burial was in the Garrison cemetery. Mrs. Williams died Friday, June 20, in Memorial Hospital, Nacogdoches, following a short illness. A former resident of Hemphill, Mrs. Williams was the wife of the late Jim H. Williams, who was for several years manager of the local Community Public Service plant. A native of Garrison, Mrs. Williams has made her home in Garrison for the past several years. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Louise Gipson of Garrison; one son, Dan Williams of Hemphill; and five grandchildren.

Dr. Sibyl W. Wyatt

Graveside services for Dr. Sibyl W. Wyatt, 92, of Nacogdoches were conducted by the Reverend Justin Beadles of Grace Bible Church at Sunset Memorial Park on June 25, 2001 at 10 am. Dr. Wyatt entered her larger life on June 23, 2001, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born November 12, 1908, on the White Plantation in the Gravel Hill Community in Sabine County, the daughter of Henry Ernest White and Sarah Evelyn Boyd White. She is survived by a son, Gayle D. Wyatt, of Nacogdoches and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A native East Texan, Dr. Wyatt taught British Romance and Victorian literature at Stephen F. Austin State University for twenty-five years. Prior to joining the SFA faculty, she taught and served as a high school teacher and principal in public schools; and while on leave from SFA for doctoral work, she held a teaching fellowship at Rice University. Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors in charge of services.
