LYONS,
Judge J . J.
d. Apr 8, 1882
H/o Sarah Lyons;
Their graves are beside each other within a small
fenced area under a large Magnolia tree which can be seen from the
Old Coffeeville Road. The fence may be gone by now, but each
grave is outlined in cement. J.J. Lyons was a county judge in Gilmer
who also owned the Gilmer Mirror. His only employee killed
him on April 8, 1882. Sarah was so distraught that her sister
"Maggie" moved back to Gilmer from Jefferson where she was a school
teacher to live with Sarah. When Sarah died in January of
1899, Maggie died only 3 months later in May of 1899; Submitted

W. McDonald, born in Tennessee.
He may have married a lady named Alice Yeary (1852-1886 buried Enon
Cemetery, Upshur Co., Tx.).
An Alice Yeary of the Pine Tree Precinct of Upshur Co.,
married a J. W. McDonald on 4 Dec 1878 in Upshur County but this
marriage date does not coincide with the birthdates of his children
except the last. However the 1880 census shows him married to
an Alice "Allis" McDonald born the correct date of birth (1852) as
her. He may have been married previously who may
have been parents of all but his last child. His children included
Myrtle A. McDonald born about 1872, George H. McDonald born about
1874, Ida M. McDonald born about 1876, and Sally M. McDonald born
about 1880. At the time of the 1860 census he is shown as
living in Gilmer, Texas and working as a clerk possibly for a Thomas
White, a Grocer, with whom he was living. During the Civil War
enlisted Apr 19 1861 in Marshall, Texas to train under Capt. Samuel
J. Richardson, in W. P. Lane's
First Texas Partisan Ranger's,
2nd Regiment. Transferred to full Confederate Army on 23 May
1861.
