Soldiers In WW II Not Included In The Book
We have been sent information on a few soldiers
that were not included in the book. We would like
to have everyone included if possible, so we are adding a page for any
WWII soldier that was missed.
If you find anyone that is not included,
just email the information to the Upshur County Coordinator.

Bullard, Billy Jack - Served in the US Navy with his brother Delbert,
he is the son of Ross C & Lou Ella Bullard. |

Fields, Leroy - Served in the Army in WWII. Awarded
the Purple Heart. |

Fields, Robert L - Steward 3/c Robert L Fields served in the Navy
in WWII. Husband of Verlie Fields (married after the war); Son of
Richard & Clora Fields of Gilmer, Texas. He served in the 5th
fleet attached to an attack squadron that was stationed aboard the
aircraft carrier USS Tuluga. His DD Form 214 is on file at the courthouse. |

Hoskins, Henry Clay Jr - Son of Henry Clay & Grace Hoskins,
he attended school in Gladewater, Texas. Entered Navy Oct. 5, 1943
and trained in Bremington,Washington. Served in South Pacific and
was a machine gun runner. Discharged Dec. 15, 1945. |

& Viola Strong - He enlisted on Jan 11, 1943 at the Tyler office in
Smith County, stating his place of residence as Upshur county. Death Certificate |

Marable & Viola Strong - He enlisted in the Navy on Nov 29, 1943.

Powell, Robert G "Butch - US Navy KIA in Kula Gulf on July
13, 1943 aboard destroyer USS Gwin. Nineteen years old. Son of Vernon
E. & Ruth Powell who lived at Big Sandy at that time. Robert attended
school in Big Sandy and was one of many boys from there that did not
come home. |

Smith, Raymond Brison - Son of Susie Mae Smith of Gilmer,
Tx. His troup was Co. H. 305th Inf. He was killed
on Leyte Island/Philipeans. Submitted by his sister, Dessie Scroggins. |
