CIVIL WAR PENSION APPLICATIONS
Texas State Library Archives database of civil war pension applications. The one place left with reasonable "copy fees" which at ten cents per page is a real bargain.

Over 5 million names of Civil War veterans (north and south) most with unit of assignment.

SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX
Database begins in earnest in 1964 (a few in 1962-63) but if the individual was not drawing benefits from social security he will normally not appear on the list. There are some exceptions but not of major concern. Updated monthly!

TEXAS GENERAL LAND
The General Land Office offers a searchable database of the land grant collection. The Land Grants of Texas tell the story of the settlement and early history of Texas. In addition there is a section on genealogy and older Texas maps.
