Herbert and Bessie FitzGerald owned
the T2 Ranch which was located on section 728 seven miles SW of
Plains TX. In 1908 they decided to homestead four more sections of
land there and so the family built a house with indoor plumbing.
They lived in it for the required three years, returning to Roswell
in 1911. The FitzGerald home was filled with music and books. They
had a family band. Among the instruments were a bass horn, clarinet,
trumpet, violin and piano. They also enjoyed singing. Some of the
family members practiced and became excellent players while others
practiced avoiding practicing. Herbert and Bessie FitzGerald were
determined that their eight children would be well educated. While
the family was living at the T2 Ranch, Joyce Hunter, Phyllis Lee
Nisbet and Lemoine Armstrong each lived with the family for a school
year and taught the children. |
