Yoakum County vital records dating from 1903 are available from the Plains County clerk.

Records prior to 1903 may be found at the Texas State Library Genealogy Section. Yoakum County, created out of the Bexar District in 1876, was a Comanche hunting area prior to Anglo-American ranching in the 1890s. The population increased after the 1936 discovery of oil; Mexican immigration increased in the 1950s.
