George Walker Fisher

In the 1860 Young County census, George Walker Fisher was living in Young County with his wife, Elizabeth Fisher. George was 29 years old and born in Alabama. He was a local merchant at Belknap in the store of Dodge and Fisher. John A. Fain was a clerk in their store. George Fisher marries Mrs.Elizabeth Cook on 4 October 1854 in Howard County, Missouri. George's wife, Elizabeth Fisher was 30 years old at the time and born in Illinois. The children living in their household in that census were:

Augustus J. Cook, 14 years, male, born Illinois
Aurena J. Cook, 12 years, female, born Illinois
Edward Cook, 11 years, male, born Texas
Viola Fisher, 5 years, female, born Texas
Belle Fisher, 2 years, female, born Texas

George W. Fisher served two terms as Young County Treasurer from 14 August 1858 - 20 September1861. Mr. Fisher was very involved in the affairs of the county and community. On 10 Decembger 1860, George W. Fisher is appointed Postmaster at Belknap in his mercantile store. He serves as postmaster until Belknap closes and the county falls apart in 1865.

Augustus J. Cook dies in 1880 in Young County, Texas and is buried in the Farmer cemetery.   
Mrs. George W. "Elizabeth" Fisher passes away on 4 September 1898 in McLennan County, Texas. She is buried in the Mart Cemetery.
