Cribbs Station Community
Cribbs Station was located west of Fort Belknap on Cribbs Station Creek five miles north of Murray and three miles south of Proffitt. The location is known as the Fisher ranch pasture which is on private property. Cribbs Station was the first stop for the Butterfield Overland Mail Route coaches heading west after leaving Fort Belknap. At this stop, horses were exchanged for mules on the stage for the trip. Ben Cribbs ran the stable and a general store. In 1916, the Cribbs Station Community School # 50 was established and located in the northwest corner of the Texas Emigration & Land Company Survey, Abstract No. 746. This school was consolidated into the Murray Community School in 1925. |
