Durning the Depression and also back in pioneer days when a church was in need of money, they had a unique fund-raiser. I have been told that this happened pretty often. Their saying was, "Trust in the Lord and a Pie Supper." With an abundance of homemade pies that were auctioned and served, money was raised. Now they couldn't have a garage sale as some of us do now for several reasons. One, they didn't have a garage. Two, everything they had was needed and used by themselves with nothing extra. The modern garage sale is a way of life. It is hard to believe the bargans you can pick up. Is this a sign of good times or bad times? Good times because you have a lot of extra "stuff" or bad times because you have to sell some of your "treasures". |
