Robert L. Stephens, "The Silver Fox"  American United States Air Force test pilot who set several speed and altitude records while testing the Lockheed YF-12 and SR-71.   Robert L. Stephens was born and raised in Gilmer, Texas graduating from Gilmer High School in 1939 and from Texas A&M University in 1943 with a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon J. Stephens, he entered the Army Air Corps shortly after the start of World War II and flew P-47s in combat during the conflict. After the war, he earned a master's degree in aeronautical engineering from Princeton University. Stephens was awarded the following medals for his military service: Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal. He was also honored with the 1965 Thompson Trophy, 1965 Mackay Trophy, Flying Tiger Trophy, Fédération Aéronautique Internationale Gold Medal, Henri De La Vauix Medal, Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement, and the city of Lancaster Aerospace Walk of Honor.On June 18, 1966, a parade was held in Gilmer, Texas to celebrate "Bobby Stephens Day". On October 20, 2000 in Gilmer, Texas the Gilmer Airfield officially changed its name to "Fox Stephens Field", in honor of Colonel Stephens.

Per Ronald Wade - Rev. Nathan Taylor, born in Lawrence, Stark Co., Ohio, the son of John Taylor (1784 ? 1870) and Margaret Shaffer(Shaver) (1790 ? 1833).  He married 26 May 1835 in Summit Co., Ohio Esther Paulus/Powell Taylor (1813-1905) and they were parents of  J. W. Taylor born about 1839, Martha Taylor born about 1847, and Eva Rosetta Taylor (1856 ? 1951 married Stephen Shumway). In 1870 they were living in Manhattan, Riley, Kansas.  In the Civil War he  Note: Some researchers have linked another N Taylor to this family who is buried in Louisiana but this Rev. Taylor is the correct Nathan Taylor married to Esther who is buried here.

On 24 Dec 1877 in Upshur Co., Tx. he married Otho Lee McNairy (1855 ? 1926), and their children included a daughter, Pearl Douphrate Walton (1879 ? 1948), Robert Lucious Walton (1881 ? 1947), Georgia Caroline Walton (1883 ? 1966), Jewel Walton (1883 ? 1891), John Thomas "Tom" Walton (1886 ? 1929), and Ira Harrison "Hal" Walton (1887 ? 1929).  During the Civil War he enlisted in Co. D, Tenth Cavalry (Locke's Regiment) and served as Ordinance Sergeant.  In the 1870's and 1880's he was Postmaster for Gilmer, Texas. On 30 Aug 1862 the Confederate Congress issued a Resolution of Thanks to the 10th Cavalry in reference to it's service in the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky communicated to T. O. Walton as Regimental Ordinance Sergeant. A Congressional Citation was given to Sgt. T. O. Walton

Per Ronald Wade - Captain Gustavus "Gus" Erickson Warren, born in Missouri, he married on 11 Jan 1859 in Tyler Smith Co., Tx. to Aretta Rush (1838-1923).   Their children included J. R. Warren born about 1863, Laura Warren born about 1865, Sallie Warren born about 1867, Arietta Warren born about 1869, Millie Warren (1872 ? 1961), Willie Warren born about 1873, Lula Warren born about 1876.  During the Civil War Originally "Gus" was a 1st Lieutenant in Co. I, M. T. Johnson's Regiment, 14th Texas Cavalry, CSA.  Later he joined and was elected Captain in Liken's 35th Texas Cavalry, CSA, Co. G, organized in Upshur County, Texas and served from 1861 to 1865.  He was paroled on 11 Jul 1865 in Marshall, Harrison Co., Texas.   On 22 Jun 1899 his wife applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension from Smith Co., Texas.  Gus had owned a grocery store in Gilmer and served as a magistrate and county clerk.

Ronald Wade - Charles Bartlett White, born Anderson, S.C., the son of James White (1814 SC ? 1870 SC) and Susanna White born about 1814 SC.  In 1861 in SC he married Mary Elmina Sargent (1843 Pickens, S.C. ? 1930 Hopkins Co., Tx.).  Their children included Aaron Eugene White (1861 ? 1907), Harleston Marshal White (1862 ? 1907), Othello Lenora White (1863 ? 1932), Estelle Lenora White (1866 ? 1907), Ettie Aurelia White (1868 ? 1954), Pearl Udora White (1870 ? 1957), Lawrence Walton White (1872 ? 1946), Minnie Ceturah White (1874 ? 1962), and T. B. White (1876 ? 1878).    During the Civil War he enlisted in Co. L, Moore's Regiment, 4th SC Volunteers and 12th SC and served from 1861 to 1865.  In Oct 1899 he was approved for a Confederate Pension and on 22 Mar 1901 his widow was approved for a Confederate Widow's Pension.
