Emma Camilla
Everett was born August 15, 1864, in
Georgia (probably Calhoun County), the daughter of
Jordan Everett and Mary Jane Steadham
Everett. Her mother died in
August 1873 and, left with several small children
to care for, her father was married again in 1875,
to Missouri Jane Kirksey in
Terrell County, Georgia. The family moved to
Texas soon after the marriage where they settled
in Colorado County, near Weimer.
Emma
Camilla Everett grew up under the care of her
stepmother and married James Kenan, Jr.
on August 20, 1884, in Colorado County.
James died March 14, 1898, Weimer, Texas and was
buried in the Osage Cemetery near there.
They were the parents of nine children:
Amsley C. Kenan (1886-1886); Fannie
C. Kenan (1887) who married Russell
G. Gilmore; Everett Kenan
(1888) who married Alice Risinger;
Milton H. Kenan (1889) who
married Alice L. McCoy;
Lena M. Kenan (1891) who married Thomas
F. Farquhar; Mary C. Kenan
(1893-1895); Charlie C. Kenan
(1895) who married Jewel May; Ruth
C. Kenan (1896-1921); and James
Kenan (1898) who married Joyce
M. Thompson.
After
the death of her husband, Emma's father, Jordan
Everett, went to Colorado County and
brought Emma and her seven remaining children to
Burnet County to be near the family. She
spent the rest of her life here, never
remarried and died on Febrruary 23, 1942.
She was buried in Bethel Cemetery, Burnet
County, Texas.
