[The Howison Family]

Their daughter, Mary Frances, or "Fannie" as she was called, married Neil McCoul Howison, Nov. 30, 1881. He was born August 7, 1853, at "Rose Hill", Fredericksburg, Va., the fifth child and fifth son of John and Anne Lee Howison. John Howison was the son of Samuel Howison and his wife Helen Rose Moore. Samuel was born in Prince William County, Va., at the homestead of his father, Stephen and his wife, Mary Brooke Howison. Stephen was a son of one John who came from Scotland in 1703 at the age of 21 years. He was a lineal descendant of Jock Howison of Breshead, near Edinburgh.

Some time later his sweetheart, Ann Wood, arrived from Scotland to marry him. They lived in Maryland, and their son Stephen married Mary Brooks[Brooke?], a great-great-granddaughter of Robert and Mary Mainwaring Brooke who settled in Maryland in 1650. Stephen and Mary moved down into the region south of the Potomac and there they are buried on the old homestead. Stephen was also the father of James Howison, whose grandson, Geo. William Howison, was the first of the name in Maple Springs. More of him later.

Anne Lee [Howison] was the daughter of Hancock Lee IV and Susan Richards Lee of Fauquier County, Va., the granddaughter of Hancock Lee III and his wife Winnifred Beale, and the great-granddaughter of Hancock Lee II and Mary Willis Lee.
