through the entire engagement before he reported his wound. He has many relatives still living in this section of the country. Robert Rainey was never married. He died a few years ago in this county. Later I will give a more complete genealogy of the Rainey family.

THE LAWSONS OF RED RIVER COUNTY

Isaiah D. Lawson was born in Kentucky near the Ohio River. His parents died when he was very young. At about the age of 18 he came to Texas with Frank Hopkins, the father of Mrs. Isabella H. Gordon. After living a while in Arkansas, Mr. Lawson came to the edge of the prairie and located his headright, which included the present site of Annona. He lived for many years. He was a great hunter and a most congenial companion. Nothing could please him better than to go with two or three of his best friends on a bear hunt. Some of these bear hunts I have already mentioned. None of the pioneers, except James Latimer, has as many descendants now living in this section of the State and Red River County as Isaiah D. Lawson.

One of his sons, Isaiah H. Lawson, died just a few years ago at Annona, leaving a large family of children and grandchildren. Isaiah H. was the eldest child. The other children were: William H.
