THE MOORES OF EAST TEXAS

Samuel Moore was born about 1760 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He entered the Revolutionary Army very young. Soon after the war he moved into Kentucky and married. Later he moved into Madison County, Tennessee. His children were: Eliza, William, Maria, David, Samuel Finley, and Juliet.

Eliza Moore married Mr. McLeary and moved into South Texas.

William Moore was born in 1790. He fought in the Battle of Horseshoe and the Battle of New Orleans. He first married in Madison County, Tennessee. His children were: Samuel Moore, America Moore Christian, and another daughter who married a Mr. Lavey [Lanney p.135].

William Moore's second marriage was to Amanda Davis, cousin of Jefferson Davis, in Madison County, Tennessee. His children by the second marriage were: Juliet Narcissa, David, who died in Texas when but 8 years old, and Maria. They moved to Shiloh, Red River County, in the fall of 1840, coming overland and crossing Red River at Mill Creek. They moved to Mill Creek, Bowie County, about 1844. They moved back to Red River County in the early 1850's. William Moore's third marriage was to Miss Hamilton. They had one son, Hamilton, who is now dead. William Moore was buried at "Old Shiloh Cemetery.

Samuel Moore III was born in Madison County, Tennessee. He came to Texas in 1840 and served in the Mexican War 1846-48.
