GRANDMA ALEXANDER

Mrs.Mary Jane Alexander was born in Washington county, Mo., October 30, 1821 and died July 2, 1917, at the home of her son, R. M. Alexander, at Round Mountain. She was 95 years, 8 months and 2 days of age.

She came to Texas with her parents in 1842, and was married to Rufus Alexander in 1843. Her husband, Rufus Alexander, fought in the Texas Revolution of 1836, and was one of the Mier prisoners who escaped and returned to Texas, he and two other men being the only ones who survived the march back to Texas, so he and his faithful companion, for whose departure we now mourn, were among those who blazed the way for the vicilization which we now enjoy.

Mrs. Mary Jane Alexander, better known as Grandmother Alexander, was converted to the Christian faith at the age of 15 years, when she united with the Old School Presbyterian Church. Grandma lived a devout Christian life and was noted for her piety. She contributed to the support of the ministry and orphanage until the end came. She proved a great stimulus to your writer from the beginning of his ministry until the Lord called her to her eternal reward.

She leaves three sons and two daughters to continue life's duties without the parental advice of mother, namely,

Miss Amelia Alexander and Mrs. Augusta Davis of Los Angeles, California.

Those who knew Grandma best were those who loved her best.
